Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It’s good to be the king

Robbins’ salary for the 2023 fiscal year was $1.39 million, the same compared to the prior year. Robbins also received stock awards totaling $24.11 million, non-equity incentive plan compensation of $6.27 million and $78,053 in “other compensation” linked to de minimis incremental catering costs for guests related to use of the corporate aircraft and personal expenses in connection with the attendance of his spouse and other guests at required business trips where the presence of spouses or partners was expected. In addition, Cisco security practices provide that the CEO be driven to and from work by an authorized car service and personal security driver, the proxy said. That brought his total compensation for the year to $31.84 million compared with $29.28 million the prior year.

Fran visited us in Mexico this week. OMG! She really thinks she is a celebrity! We even had a huge backdrop printed with her name on it, and she ate it up. I feel so sorry that we spend all this money on hosting a “celebrity” after we have laid off so many friends in the USA. Maria was much the same way on her last visit here. At least most of our leadership in Mexico doesn't have this entitled perspective. It makes me sick to see how the US ELT is above the rest and then say how they care for employees. They don't care about us!!!

How can someone make 10,000x the salary others make and still call Cisco a fair company and a great place to work. Why is this kind of caste-like system allowed in the so called Cisco inclusive culture? They honestly think this is OK. I just can’t get my mind around how people can think this way. Yes cost-of-living is cheaper here and I’m fine with USA having higher salaries than us. Nevertheless, even in the USA, we shouldn’t have entitled ELTs like this and turn around and lay off good people.

  1. Stop laying off people in Cisco. Split up the ELT salaries and we don't need to lay off anyone.
  2. Stop the entitled ELT perspective telling us you are better than we are.
  3. Stop pretending we are the best place to work!

...yes he will replace CR so he can do to Cisco why he did at splunk - prepare it for sale.

Hardware and associated licenses are half of Cisco's revenue. Think routing, switching, WiFi etc... Services, often supporting those products, is half of what remains. IOS and IOS-XE are intertwined so I don't see those being separated. I don't see how IOS-XR or NX-OS are good buys on their own either.

  1. If those represent $150B of Cisco's market capitalization who could both afford that and then improve earnings in a timely manner to justify that cost?
  2. As a customer of those products who would you trust not to hurt your business through such acquisitions?

@2cih+1pcHKLEp yes he will replace CR so he can do to Cisco why he did at splunk - prepare it for sale. But Cisco has a broader portfolio so it will be sliced and diced for multiple buyers.

Even if Splunk CEO takes a big position like President & COO (MM replacement?) post acquisition, big paycut. Unless replacing CR?

Whether you like him or not, he’s CEO of one of the biggest companies in the world that makes huge profits. He deserves to have a salary as such as would anyone in such a position.

How can the company be having multiple yearly layoffs but the ELT is making more money than movie stars?

How many movie stars are leading projects generating $57B/yr in revenue?

We should also start a thread shaming all those Cisco software engineers earning more than 100k.

The problem isn't the money. Apple generates something like $2.4M/yr per employee in revenue so it's not unreasonable to pass some of that down to the employees, but at the same time their quality is garbage - iOS should be renamed Flash. If you want to shame people it should be for the poor quality of the work regardless of salary.

We don't create any products or services!

I worked there for over a decade when customers constantly threatened to take their business elsewhere but never did because (for those specific market segments) the competitors didn't have anything close to viable to replace Cisco.

When I search for top 20 tech companies by revenue Cisco is on those lists. The same goes for the top 20 tech companies by market value. Having seen how the sausage is made it seems unfathomable and yet there it is.

Say what you will about the splunk acquisition, but their ceo deserves to be rich. He tricked Chuck out of tens of billions of dollars.

And yet, Chuck made $20M+ less than the Splunk CEO

Narcissistic CEOs are paid more than their non-narcissistic peers
The longer the narcissists have held the top post, the bigger the differential
Narcissists don’t really care what other people think, and depending on the nature of the narcissist, they are impulsive and manipulative
The longer the Narcissistic CEO is in charge, the farther ahead of his team his pay progresses, because he has recurring exchanges with the board, seeking more money for himself and less for his team

No employee should earn more than $500,000/year at Cisco. We don't create any products or services! Unless you consider new buzzwords innovative, we don't need highly compensated employees at any level.

Looking at the software quality, no software engineer at Cisco should earn more than 100k. We should also start a thread shaming all those Cisco software engineers earning more than 100k.
