Remember when? SBC Executives met with Stevie Jobs on the exclusive deal on the first IPhone. SBC executives somehow thought they had the upper hand in negotiations, they were prepared to take Jobs to the mat, Jobs quickly let them know who was boss, and it wasn't SBC! Had to be one of the funniest moments in American business history. Always remember, Stankey and execs, you no longer dictate terms to any other company. When you go into negotiations with any company, you go in with your hat in hand!

"Where telecoms fail is through the idea that purchasing a different type of company can be run like a telecom."

You say that as it you think Stankey et al know something about running a telecom.

Other than "into the ground", they don't.

THREE SIMPLE RULES FOR A SUCCESSFUL ACQUISITION.

Acquisition rule number one:
Don't act like and arrogant pr--k toward acquired company employees.

Acquisition rule number two:
Show employees of acquired company some respect.

Acquisition rule number three:
Provide leadership of acquired company the support and resources needed to be successful.

This is directed at Stankey. Also don't blame your employees for failure of acquisitions caused by you. Take some responsibility!

Google, Amazon, Elon Musk- each of those entities diverge into new businesses periodically. It takes a leader who knows how to bring in people to run the parts of the business they don’t understand. Where telecoms fail is through the idea that purchasing a different type of company can be run like a telecom. Sadly this has played out several times without success.

Vanity Fair published an excerpt from that work. Our leader does not come off favorably:

It's better to stay in your lane and let others pass you by. Should have stayed with telephones instead of this useless thing called the internet.

Its best to complain about things over and over to try to make yourself feel better. Are we there yet?

Absolutely! You just need to make certain you don't have an arrogant ja----s as your CEO. Stankey went in like a bull in a China shop. Why? No one will ever know. He sealed the fate of both failed acquisions. Although he tries to blame at&t rank and file, he is the one and only reason for the failures. I remember him dictating when Warner leadership could contact him! What a dipsh-t, this arrogant a--hole needs to go!

It’s best to stay with what you ACTUALLY know about!

No.

Ratty and Stinky proved that.

AOL and TW proved that.

Only another CEO D O L T like Stinky will try again when they do not learn the lessons of history.
