Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

They can't fire us all

If there was unity among Nike employees, nobody would comply with the new RTO mandate. Plenty of other companies have seen their employees band together to ignore RTO orders and were forced to either back down or find a compromise. Sadly, as much as I'd like it, there is no unity here. So we'll just do what we always do, fold.

Nike is not just bloated at the leadership level. There is a large enough of mid level and "work level" bloat. I love it when I see FTEs hiring ETWs to do their jobs, while they do nothing. Maybe if we just worked and showed up during the 3:2 it wouldn't have needed to change.

Actually they can fire you all. Despite all of Nike's short comings it is still a se-y company and the second you leave you will figure out you weren't that important to the machine... there will be somebody younger, hungrier and less jaded (for now) to replace you.

The sad reality of 4:1 RTO is you will still be WFH…it will just be at nights and on your weekends …just like the olden days everyone is so fond of. (as a former lifer @ Nike I can see this one coming.) Give people an actual desk, a team they can sit by and collaborate with more effectively /efficiently, block calendars so you can have “get your work done at work” time, flex to pick up their kids or go to appts or whatever when needed and consistency across teams so it’s not just a matter of who you report to and you might be able to get some level of efficiency back with this mandate. I worked 5 days a week, nights and some of just about every weekend I had when I was there over 2 decades and I can tell you….that’s not the right model for success either.

1djf - if you have worked elsewhere you would know how absolutely bloated and terrible Nikes leadership is. How many vps before you get to JD? What do they do again?
We are paying for a multitude of ELT mistakes. Yelling at the crops won't make them grow faster.

They won’t need to fire everyone OP. Because your rebellion will be all of you and five other people. And that mass exodus so many people on here were talking about? That isn’t going to happen either. For reasons that were well explained in earlier posts. Like it or not Nike is near the top of the employment food chain. If any of you think things are vaguely “better” at most other employers I’d say you either haven’t worked at too many other companies or you’ve taken your time at Nike for granted and forgotten why you left your previous job for Nike in the first place.

Come to the office 4 days per week. I promise, you’ll live.

OK so you like working in the office. not everyone does. why not let those who want to be in the office go and those who work better remote stay remote. people have different ways of working, there is no one size fits all approach.

Stop acting like a spoiled brat!! We are spoiled … rather be thankful you have a job and a solid company to work for in these uncertain times. And by the way it’s NOT prison you are free to go at any time. Exercise your right! Bye!

Honestly, I’ve seen a positive impact with showing up 5 days per week. My team works well together and has conversations in the moment to solve problems that we wouldn’t have remotely.

I do get that WFH flexibility is awesome, and you should be able to do that when needed. But I like working in office, we work at the nicest facilities I’ve ever seen.

Just quit dude. JFC. Have you ever left the USA and seen how hard people have it elsewhere? People making 20 dollars a day doing hard labor under the sun. And you are complaining about having to show up to your cushy corporate job…count your blessings and shut up

Why not just quit? Why scream at deaf ears?

PK wanted 5 days and thinks you should want to be there in the office 7 days. 4/0.5 was a compromise. I’d count your blessings and be happy it wasnt worse. Amazon is firing people outright with no severance if the won’t come in.

They’re already half way there. Give it another year and 80% of staff will be working from India. They’re already up to 20%.

Just give them an excuse to cut deeper.

And you can’t appeal to the company’s long term health, our entire C suite are a bunch of corporate pirates, hopping from sinking ship to sinking ship.
