LHH Outplacement

Has any who has gone through surplus used the LHH Outplacement offered as part of the surplus package? If so what services were offered and for how long? I am hoping to get help putting my resume together and getting my LinkedIn profile in better shape. I figure may as well take advantage of whatever help I am being offered.

I’m currently using LHH and have a wonderful consultant who is knowledgeable about trends and acts as a mentor/cheerleader. She helped me practice my interviewing skills and counseled me on what I’m actually worth (salary requirements). The resume feedback from another consultant was mixed but I was able to glean some good information on personal branding and which areas to expand.

Lee Heck Harrison has been used by AT&T for many years, even before the became the 'knockout off' Southwestern Bell version.

I used them in 2019, they helped polish up the resumé and my Linked-In profile. I had an order, experienced guide or whatever they were called, recommended several meet-and-greets the I never went too. It was interesting that he volunteered that ageism is definitely a thing. During the middle of it all, I thought I had a job lined up but it was a couple of months out, so we stopped talking (although that ultimately fell through). Honestly I didn't really go gung-ho into it, I wasn't interested in commuting again or relocating, so, like many things, often you get out of it what you put in to it.

T offered the LHH package back when i was chopped in Oct 2020. While it was a nice gesture, my experience with it was mixed, to say the least.

Their resume service is okay, but not great and (at least then) it wasn't better than just running your stuff through ChatGPT. Their job search service was similarly okay, but I found more relevant opportunities via LinkedIn and Indeed -- in fact, of the dozen or so interviews I had before settling on my new position, only one came from an LHH lead.

Perhaps the most flimsy component was the personal assistant that we got. WHen I went through it we were each given a "counselor" (for lack of a better term) to give us encouragement, offer pointers on our resumes, LinkedIn profiles, cover letters etc. It's a great idea unless you happen to get some wet-behind-the-ears kid with a whopping three years of experience to try and guide you. My "counselor" was eager, friendly, encouraging, but she had so little actual practical knowledge that on more than a few occasions I ended up sort of guiding her. In short, while she was willing, she was also pretty worthless.

But then again, that's just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Take advantage of it. They will definitely take care of your linkedin and resume. I believe they are also connected to a recruiting firm, which also is free.
