Yahoo headline: Ford Is Recalling Mach-Es For An Embarrassing Problem

Ford has issued a recall for about 35,000 Mach-E all-electric crossovers. Unfortunately, it’s not to remove the pony badges and stop calling the grocery getter a Mustang, but it’s almost as embarrassing. And the result is sales, which seem to already be waning along with other EVs, could take a hit.

Perhaps this is why Ford and other automakers have an EV loyalty problem.

If you recall, federal investigators have been looking into the Ford Mach-E for battery problems, even after the bloated ponies were recalled in 2022. Some owners had complained their EV had lost power completely while they were driving down the road, causing them to crash. The recall apparently didn’t fix the problem.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in an official filing that “repeated wide open pedal events can cause the high voltage battery main contactors to overheat. Overheating may lead to arcing and deformation of the electrical contact surfaces, which can result in a contactor that is prevented from closing or a contactor that welds closed.”

In other words, repeated hard acceleration in a vehicle Ford has promoted as a performance EV can cause a malfunction that results in loss of power while driving. NHTSA estimates 100% of the recalled Fords contain this defect, so we’d definitely recommend having your Mach-E fixed as soon as possible if it’s one of the recalled units. Until then, it’s probably best to not go crazy showing off all that instant full torque delivery.

The 2022 recall was for almost 49,000 Mach-Es, so this time around it’s not quite as large. But with the Ford EV experiencing these kinds of persistent problems, only a fool would believe it won’t suffer from image problems.

Considering increasing data shows EV demand is softening and loyalty is waning, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for Ford.

I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

I'll err on the side of caution and downvote you

Did you even watch the Special Town Hall on Monday? I advise you to watch the replay and pay special attention when Doug Field talks about the Gen-2 Model e BEV's.

You're Welcome.

Model-E people must be working for a competitor. No one could be that inept. Definitely not working in FMC's best interest. Time to shine the spotlight on them.

"This won't happen again, not on Model e next-gen products....". What planet are you living on really? People don't want these things. The hemorrhaging of cash from the division and the numbers speak for themselves over time...how much time do they need to prove this out? I'd say we'll wait, but the economics don't allow for that. Save us the losses...and just make sh-t people want to buy. Not EV's that catch fire and don't sell.

Should be easy to fix as most of the Mach-E’s are sitting on dealer lots or held by Ford. Expect more number waning.

We seem to know now quality is NOT job #1.

Ford will always be #1 in the most recalls list for the next 10 years.

At least Ford is ranked #1 for something.

This won't happen again, not on Model e next-gen products. That's why new leadership was brought in the past couple years and Model e was formed.

Ford should give some consideration to getting Dylan Mulvaney to represent the new electric Ford Mustangs. If your going to do something stupid go all the way.

We are screwed. Bell's Palsy Billy is already on record as saying that Mach-e and Lightning are the most important launches in his "career" at Ford. Both botched and no one wants these hunks of junk.

Last one out turn off they lights....

There will be more recalls with Ford EVs. Ford knew about these problems, but did nothing about it, because they considered it not a safety issue. More to come.
