Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Excuses to not give

I wonder how many of the vocal critics of United Way donate to any charity at all.

Once the company attempted to PIP me because (age discrimination) I reached 55, I retired. The most hilarious thing was to get the retiree EM United Way Package in the mail, asking me to donate!! Laughed and tossed that BS.
I much prefer sponsoring international adoptions, supporting women escaping abuse, the local church and providing helping to fund people seeking rehabilitation and/or needing housing. All without needing public accolades.

When you donate anything or something you do not make it public. When you make it public, you are not doing it because it is a great cause. You are doing it because the snake you are trying to get something in exchange. Kissing the @ss of somebody to be promoted.

What a bunch of losers - I don't donate because it helps the company's PR - what a joke. You mean you don't donate because you are selfish and greedy. What percentage of your income do you donate to ANY charity? How much of your time do you donate to ANY charity? I bet you spend more time on this website complaining than you do volunteering.

DO YOU REALLY THINK ANYONE CARES HOW MUCH EXXONMOBIL EMPLOYEES DONATE TO UNITED WAY? WHAT IS THIS PR BOOST THAT YOU ARE SO OPPOSED TO SUPPORTING?

Weakest excuses I've ever heard. And the guy who says 15-20 years ago there was a scandal, grow up dude.

To the people saying UW supports causes you don't agree with you know you can pick the charities they send the money to right?

Your link is to Harrison County, WV. EMHC is located in Harris County, Texas.

UW donations from EMHC employees are to the UW of Greater Houston.

If Exxonmobil wants to clean up their public imagine, start hiring competent managers and get rid of the horrible ones.

Talk about coercion!!! High pressure, nonstop solicitation of their employees! Think PIP or PIL if you don't comply!

I stopped supporting the company’s propaganda several years ago part for several reason.

  1. Charity starts at home. ExxonMobil has shown no compassion to the 1000s of employees and their families with all the layoffs /PIPS.
  2. United Way was caught in several scandals 15-20 years ago with their leadership team taking funds. They also have a relatively high overhead compared to many other charities.
  3. United Way supports a number of programs that I personally do not agree with.

I can and do choose what charities I contribute to and do this without the company’s subversive tactics.

laid offed and abandoned

I also no longer contribute to ExxonMobil's PR play, but I do I contribute plenty both with my time and via monetary contributions to the charities of my choice and under my own name. EM gets enough from me as it is.

I don't need an excuse. The company actively is replacing us with D tier labor from overseas not only through remote "support" but also by shipping them here to fill vacancies. I'm not doing anything to help this company PR machine. They actively avoid paying taxes via ITEP on projects they were going to build anyway. You take away from my community and I'll withhold my miniscule contribution to your bs ad campaign.

You nailed it, the most vocal critics either dont donate anything, or donate to cr-p charities like their schools football team or their far right church pastors private jet collection.

I can see not liking the pressure to donate as part of your job. But the tone of the loudest complainers on here let’s you know what their actual deal is.

I won't be part of Exxon's yearly propaganda campaign. If DW wants to buy the appreciation of the communities he pollutes in, he'll have to do it with some of the millions spent devoted to buying every politician in America.
