Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How do they expect anyone to work here and give it their all?

Layoffs are happening like every 2 months here, everyone is scared sh1tless because half the tech force is on h1b. No idea how they expect to improve the morale here if people cant even sleep easy at night knowing they are somewhat secure

Oh 1gom past behavior indicates otherwise.

  • The most productive and capable employees will be fired.
  • The least competent will be promoted.
  • Another round of hiring will occur as well they fired all the people doing work.
  • Reorgs will occur as a coverup for incompetence of management and as an excuse for more promotions and positioning FNF in groups for intel gathering and future promotions
  • Competent new hires will quit as soon as they see what they hired into, incompetent new hires will settle in for lifetime paycheck for doing nothing. The barely mediocre will convince themselves that they are all that and a bag of chips.

If you are worry about being laid off, then you are one of the underperformers. The gravy train is over. Hopefully, Ford will weed out all underperformers. Especially those that are working from home, and quiet quitters.

@ndp+1pj7DXUh I am tired too. Does that mean we have been too long at Ford or just that we are too cynical and lost hope? :D

At one point, I thought I was going to retire at Ford. I lost that dream a few years ago. Now I lost the fear of being laid off. I just don't care anymore. I'll find another job, better or worse than the one I have now.

If I get less money in my next job, we'll cope. Luckily, we've been living below our means for many years. We have no debts, no mortgage, we can adjust our expenses. I've been also concerned about losing my job at Ford, because of the economical impact on my retirement. Not anymore. I accepted the possibility that I may have to work until I drop dead, but I'd not worry no more. And it is working (kind of): I feel better, less stressed and thinking less on my soon to be lay off, but I am still having trouble sleeping, and here I am , 12:30 am, still wasting my time in a "work related" site. Sh-t! This company is fu--ing toxic!

@ vte - where do I even find a 3000sq ft McMansion for $700k? I’m thinking if I can find a Mansion for $700k, it’s probably no where I would like to live.

The problem with Ford is and has always been the Management (sorry calling them leaders is so wrong). And the culture they need to preserve to protect and enhance their own career

Under Mulally our team (well really 3 people) streamlined and automated our teams work. Roughly 70% of the work was automated with appropriate security and audit trails. Well now that meant that most of the team and supporting teams had zero work. Instead of learning new skills or working on streamlining the remaining 30% of the work, they all began coming up with reasons all the streamlining and automation should be deleted and manual work resumed. They continually slung mud at the 3 innovators.

Under Hackett the 3 innovators were laid off; the streamlining and automation was deleted; a hiring spree ensued and the group tripled in size all doing work that was previously automated. Well Done Mr Hackett.

Under Farley the team members trying to reinstate automation were laid off. Well done Mr Farley!

Now this is just one example of an often repeated scenario at Ford. The incoming think they are the first to think of automating and improving tasks, not realizing they are slipping the noose around their own neck.

I'm not scared sh1tless. I know my time is coming, and I'll embrace it when it does. I'm tired. I've been with Ford nearly 2 decades. I show up every day early, work hard, I care, and I work late, weekends, and holidays when required. Quite frankly, I've heard the same message for nearly 20 years, and I'm just tired. We're currently doing things, like reducing content and reducing bureaucracy (still), that we did when Mullaly was here. Seems Ford never learns. My biggest issue is this - Ford doesn't lead the industry it was responsible for creating. Ford is following and reacting. As long as Ford doesn't cut its own path, it will never be in control of its destiny.

They want people to be d-mb enough to give it their all for 3-5 years then leave. They actually believe all the worker bees are easily replaceable cogs.

This does not mean be dishonest, but give an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. Recognize that stretch objectives get you nowhere at this company and only make your boss look good. Live below your means and all will be okay. Have more assets than liabilities and don’t pi-s money away on stuff like a $60K truck that craters in value with depreciation. You don’t need a $700K 3000sqft vinyl sided McMansion either.

@ags+1piNIR8C. OP is right. Ford is cutting the NA force by laying off small amounts of employees in different department. Nothing like the large scale layoffs you listed, but still causing morale issues and overworked employees.

I am only aware of one large scale layoff of salaried folk in the US in the past year (June 2023). I believe the previous one was August of 2022.
