Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

PSPC Lynchburg

There were some layoffs in PSPC in Lynchburg, VA last week. The few names I heard were all age 50+ managers so they got their bang for the buck. They were not poor performers either.

L3 Harris is selling off the Avionics business for $800 million. About $200 million less than what Chris said it was worth. That will remove 1450 employees from the workforce. Selling them off instead of laying them off. Either way, their jobs are gone.

Space and Airborne Systems in Clifton also laid off engineers earlier this year. The older ones were offered an early retirement package in lieu of being laid off. Handpicked engineers who were laid off were very quietly brought back as per diem consultants. often working over 40 hours per week.

FYI. 40 is the cutoff for age discrimination. 40+ is "older", they don't have to have gray hair.

"That company had both young and old in the list so no problems. " So NOT TRUE. I worked at a major defense contractor that did a project layoff in waves (month 1, month 2, ...). The sent their list to the lawyers at least 3 times before announcing it. The list showed that the percent of layoffs over under age 40 and over age 40 matched the distribution on the project.

But ... we kept track of who was laid off each month. The paper gave job descriptions and ages, no names, so you had to match who left each time up with the list. It took very little time to do.

We figured out who was laid off, who quit to go to another job somewhere else, and who was matched up with an internal job. The ONLY people actually laid off were over age 40. Many of the people under age 40 were matched to internal jobs, not many over age 40.

The paper they gave you was legal toilet paper to try to cover their *ss.

I was laid off by a different company this year in the US and older age (45+) and they gave me a list of the ages and positions of the others let go. That company had both young and old in the list so no problems.

I thought it was funny that the document they gave me was labeled "Exhibit A" like they expected to file it in court...

L3Harris in Tulsa laid of 10% of their staff last week and all but 2 people were older. They had only two persons that were younger; one was in their 30’s and the other was in their mid 40’s. All the rest weee much older.

If you are of the required age, see if the company complied with the OWBPA. They're required to tell you who got laid off - AND whi didn't. Then you can see who was above the age and below the age for an age discrimination case.

they should get together and file a class action suit for age discrimination. it's happening all over the company. the taxpayers need to know that the government is spending their money on a cr-p company like this.
