So the Company lays off a bunch of people in June, 2023 and August, 2022, leaves the remaining employees to struggle on how to make their departments work, and says we have to do better with quality? Did they not see this coming?

It is not the competition that destroyed this company, it was done from within.
@kxb+1pmpdEVH - Yep, those Tech Specialists were valuable due to the combination of specialized knowledge and experience which cannot be hired off the street. And those who they gave the boot to won't come back, even if the condition in the paperwork they had to sign to get a fair severance saying they can never work for Ford again were to be waived. And last year wasn't the first time they've gutted most/all of the TS ranks either, nor will it be the last time since at some future date someone will to get credit for saving the company tens of millions of dollars by eliminating the well compensated Tech Specialists. (Yet those sitting in the C-suite and BoD will continue to pull in multi-million dollar salaries regardless of value actually provided. I'd point out Professor Moonbeam, but I suppose his Abe Simpson like rambling stories were comedy gold and he must've been getting paid to make us laugh.)
But you took 40+ hours of quality training. You should be all set!
Quality is not an easy thing to contain. You need people that have been there done that to work on these highly demanding issues. These people that have been there and done that are the ones that Ford has been getting rid of over the years. Now they are stuck with very low experienced people to work on issues that require outmost experience. I guess it’s up to Mexico to bail out quality since all of our jobs have been and are going down there. But the rocket scientist who put a target on experience people to get them out never thought of that. How smart they are. Penny, wise, dollar foolish, and never learn, never learn I emphasize. But again nobody’s held accountable.
Technical specialists -Identify the right resources and talent. This just show how out of touch our senior management is......Management has no respect for technical expertise. We've fired experienced engineers and Technical specialists and SMEs, and promoted completely unqualified DEI into leadership positions. Sending engineering to LCC. Forget recruiting the "right" SME resources, why would they come to Ford?
The employees in Mexico, India and Brazil will come to the rescue and fix the issues!
Don’t worry, we are going to reestablish technical specialist roles to solve this. Just ignore that we laid them off less than a year ago and that type of specialized knowledge is nearly impossible to hire for.
