I could not get an 30-day unpaid extension because the hiring manager did not update Careerpath before my last day on payroll. I was given a verbal offer, but then this hiring manager just put my application in review status. To get the 30-day unpaid extension, you have to have at least a scheduled interview. I was very upset this hiring manager was not straight with me. Maybe this is for the best, I would probably be surplus again earlier next year.

Tell em F U...30 days UNPAID to beg like trying to stay in an abusive relationship? yeah, F U
I had this situation once, but there was no "extension". The employee was put on an unpaid LOA of unspecified duration while the haggling went on to get him an offer. And he did unfortunately get laid off eventually, but not for a few years.

Yeah, when I got laid off earlier this year, I didn't even bother looking internally. It took just around 3 months to find another job, that pays more and has a much better work culture and environment. And I got a very nice chunk of that severance left over. Going through a lay-off after many years at T was stressful, sure, but it all worked out at the end. It always does.

You are in denial. Start interviewing externally for your next job.
The company wants you gone!
As Stankey would say, just get out!
You can’t use the company legal benefit to sue the company. They aren’t that stupid.

Odds are very high your name would be first on the list if the new team has to make a cut, yes.
More of the same with at&t, this company is so underhanded on everything they do.
I’m paying $18/month for the MetLife Legal Insurance on the Benefits deduction. I have free legal consultation and know what steps to take to sue for harassment, discrimination and agism. Plus, they helped me create a Trust for my family. Great benefit.
Who was the hiring manager?
Do a majority of AT&T employees have lawyers on retainer? So many posts on this board mention calling an attorney. Why not just get another job? Why is there so much fear?
I hope you did not sign the general waiver to get your severance pay. Maybe you can discuss this with an Attorney
