Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

bad service

My son moved to a new apartment and switched his ATT fiber to the new place. The tech arrive and dropped a couple of F-bo--s during the initial conversion. I arrived, told the tech I was retired ATT, he did not even say hi. Crazy. The fiber works, but he did not even tell my son how to set up the wifi, etc. Very rude.

the only reason I would chose att service if it is the only choice and maybe not even then.

would not give att any my money and never will. why would I subject myself to their billing practices.

because they have a captive audience in some regions that is why they don't care. att is a garbage company and no one cares about making it better.

He didn't need to hear a long, worthless story about how important you were in the old days.

Attitude is everything. Get a disgruntled or unmotivated tech and they ultimately cause an issue that someone else has to resolve. God forbid they have to go back themselves…but if it were a job for someone they know and like, well then they are on best behavior. Imagine you had a surgeon like that…attitude shows who you really are and many should be shown the door…

Technician “Hello Mr. retired ATT. I’m sure you’ve had a very colorful career. Sorry no time to hear your career complaints. Maybe your weak pencil joint son has time. Later”

So you're a retired phone guy. Were you expecting a parade or something?

Managers glare at spreadsheets all day with a blank stare. That’s why they’re getting fired all the time.

Sorry, I strongly disagreed the poster most AT&T Techs are good they’re the ones to keep the customer happy due to the rude treatment customers receive on the phone from the company….in my opinion most managers are the issue!…..no technical clue of any outside skills involved with the techs job. Just yes men box checking at best……

for op
"Guys, there are 20+ wifi devices now in your home and wifi info on the router sticker. This isn't 2005. Figure it out yourself."

We used the app/sticker to set up everything - but the tech didn't even tell my son about the sticker.

Lol, “Set up the Wi-Fi”?! That’s something a tech has to do for an 80 year old. It wouldn’t hurt you to be a bit more resourceful considering you’re a retiree.

I was installing a residential GPON one day in the SE as a digital tech and after getting the fiber drop under the sidewalk to connect to the port in the handhole and drilling a hole in the office where the customer wanted the ONT, I connected the router after IHX stopped by and registered it. I went to lunch and it started pouring rain. After lunch I called the customer and the kid said everything was working ok. Went to a MLT ticket for my 3rd job. Sometimes the customers don’t want to be spoon fed the directions. IHX is ok if they don’t bother the technician.

Techs will get fired for accepting Tips. That is part of their training practices .

No offense, but if you're not tipping them I advance I don't know what you expect. It's no different than Uber Eats or DoorDash. Someone comes to your house to do something for you, tip them 20% or $1/mile they drove to get there, whichever is higher.

“A very rare occurrence”

The majority of AT&T techs are turds. No reason to be surprised because they are all union represented and passing a multiple choice test and waiting is about all it takes to be hired as a tech as long as you aren’t a criminal.

For every good one who is worth their weight in gold, there are 10 goons who could care less about the company or customers running around in the same space.

Those useless dead weight folks show up to collect a paycheck and not much else. They have no pride, no work ethic, no care and usually, not much (if any) actual technical and customer relation skills.

When one of the good techs shows up, it’s like you’ve encountered the holy grail or something and a visit from a bad one will ruin your day at the very least.

I was a tech in the SE (Services Tech, Facility Tech, Digital Tech) for 13 years and have been a management level employee for the last 10. You can call me a liar if you want, but I have no reason to do so. Just passing my opinion from lots of experience and first hand observation.

Your expectations are way beyond what is to be expected from the current moral being produced by management. Enjoy your monthly and quit thinking this is the same as your AT&T.

Sorry you had a bad experience, that is a very rare occurrence. In the field, we pride ourselves on providing excellent service and have follow up surveys to make sure the customer experience is more than satisfactory.

The technician should have checked if the internet and Wi-Fi was working properly and asked if there was any other questions before leaving. He should have left his number or called back the following day. Usually if you are just transferring your service and equipment to a new location there isn’t any need to reset your WiFi, the passwords and settings don’t need to be reentered. Once the internet is back up working then he should be able to reconnect to his Wifi and at most just turn off the Wifi setting on his devices (tv, phones, tablet, etc..) then back on to re-establish connection but that usually isn’t necessary. Mostly plug and play.

There is the AT&T website and downloadable apps to assist with frequent asked questions or troubleshooting.
