What's the interest in unionizing?

Any thoughts on unionizing salaried employees at Ford? Seriously, after all of this, I really don't see a downside, so is there an interest, and if so, any good proposals on how to start the process?

@3cto+1psIoZRI. You obviously don't know a thing about the folks working in the plants! On a percentage basis, I'm sure that there are more salary drunks than hourly! There's always gonna be a few bad eggs in any population of people, but most of the hourly people are good, hard working people!

A better plan for a salaried worker at Ford is to find another job and quit working for free to support the drunks that work the line.

Price would go down on vehicles as unionized salaried production would excellerate due to happiness, better wages and job security.

A salaried union drive got pretty far along in VOME around 2004 or so, even coming to a vote. This was driven by the "No OT for anybody" mandate which meant those toiling away on launch received the same pay as those working on up front programs in Dearborn.
Some of the issues which ki-led that union drive were the fact that outstanding work would not be rewarded any more than substandard work, OT hours would need to be equalized (You are on launch? Oh, you have come home for many of your weekend builds & installations while others not familiar with the program would take your place). OT was restored for launch teams, and the union drive was voted down.

@OP you dont see a downside? How about acquiring the union mentality? Do a little work with a lot of attitude? File a grievance every time something doesnt go your way? Be told to flood the system with grievances to slow the process to a stop? Be forced to agree with a union position or be an outcast? Work in a system where outstanding work is not rewarded any more than substandard work? Be told to stop work by union bosses when you arent involved in a dispute? Be told to pay union dues or be prepared to face the consequences if you balk.

For all you people who want union protection, you dont know what you are asking for. Look at what happened to that criminal enterprise known as wixom assembly. The most modern plant in the world and they turned it into a strip mall because of what was going on there. The union wont help you people when all is said and done! Its the old saying "Be careful that you ask for because you might just get it". Unions were needed in the 1930's, not today.

If salaried would become part of the UAW, how much would the current estimated cost increase of 850-950 per vehicle (from the new non salaried contract) rise ?

Salaried is usually not doers and therefore not getters. Most not union candidates by choice. But loose out in the end by no choice.
