Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Those laid off will be better off

Do you know of one person who still likes their job at Nike? I certainly don't.

HR is a circus. PR and MM are tyrants.

PK said he feels sorry for people who don’t like their jobs at Nike and he’s right. If you don’t like Nike go try your luck in corporate America and report back.

There are over 80,000 employees globally at Nike. Does everyone LOVE their job? Probably not. Do the majority enjoy or like their job, probably yes. If you are unhappy, then there are lots of other companies to work for. Just remember, the grass isn't always greener. Every single company, no matter the size, has issues. Just because Nike had layoffs, it doesn't make it a horrible place, it simply means that they are a victim of the economy and have to make difficult decisions. I don't think anyone is enjoying having to let people go. It absolutely su-ks.

I genuinely enjoy my job and like my leadership team but I know mileage is different for most. 2 years ago I hated my leadership team but they removed or moved those leaders else where and we received a new management that actually listens and addresses problems.

They also help me bring work forward that I think is valuable. I can’t complain at the moment, I’m happy.

But like I said 2 years ago, I was pretty unhappy.

Some people still need to understand that while Nike is one company there can be very different subcultures and therefore work experiences within the one company. I worked in corporate services for five years and it was mostly pleasant. Very professional, little drama, a good job. I transitioned to Brand more than two years ago and it was like I had moved to a totally different company. Felt like I was back in high school with the cool kids, the nerds, the drama & band kids, the jocks, etc. Very cliquish with too much drama, politics and backstabbing. I’m now trying to get back to corporate services.

Get out of your cave OP. This is a big company. If no one in your org likes working here that’s probably because your org is dysfunctional. Doesn’t mean all of them are.

Yeah I genuinely like my job. I have good coworkers and a great boss. I understand I am not in the same boat as others. But to say you don’t know one person means you might be part of the problem.

The economy is a mess. There are layoffs happening across every company. Nike isn't immune. :(

I like almost all my coworkers, and I like a subset of our projects. I like the campus fine, the fitness centers, and my commute is not too bad. I don't like how siloed the company is, or that everything is constantly blocked. I don't like pestering people on slack all the time or waiting for tickets to be seen/assigned. I hate how disorganized things are and how hard it is to get stuff done. I worry about being held accountable for projects moving forward slowly, even though I'm dependent on others to get things moving faster. I don't like that I've been hired as an software dev, but most of my job is dealing with bureaucracy and not actual development.

I've been told we have a "fast paced" culture, but it really feels like that just means people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They're running quickly, but seemingly to nowhere, and not much is actually accomplished.

I guess I'm not sure if I like my job or not. It could be worse.

People on my team like their jobs, but they are in constant fear of losing their jobs.

The funny thing is… I hate my job because I am no longer allowed to do my job.

My entire vertical are lost in the clouds and have no idea what adds value to the company. They keep hiring on more people to inflate their downstream while forcing me to come up with non-existent busy work for them.

They’re so ineffective that I’m no long sure why any of our roles exist.

HR should set up a hotline where employees can suggest areas of the company that can be cut.
