Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Fight The Power! Fight RTO!

You are going to be eliminated regardless of whether you show up or not. That is how this game is played. 5 Days a week will be coming to out the screws to those who have been complying. Lay down your keyboards and mouses and Fight the Power! Fight RTO!

I agree. You should fight the power. We need a pool of people for layoffs.

Why is everyone so worried?? I reached modified rule of 75, have a few million saved for retirement and get a great paycheck. I like my job and find it interesting and adds value to the AT&T operation. If they want me to go, I am not worried and if they want me to stay, I am still ok. I am not an investor any longer in AT&T so not worried Johnny Stink is clueless and running it in the ground. I can handle one way or another anything they throw at me. Chill out!

I started a couple side gigs during COVID and WFH helped me focus on that. So when I got surplussed by AT&T, I was like - "SEEYA!!" I got severance and I had my businesses off the ground. RTO would stop people like me.

“ But, I don't see error on the company's part if the RTO only reinstates the status quo prior to the pandemic.”
But I was FTW prior to covid and was for years, like a lot of others. Now I’m in the office 3x per week. I don’t even speak with anyone all day. I just sit on teams calls while sitting in an open office.

Going back to the office one was working at before the Covid-19 pandemic isn't the end of the world. If on the other hand, the company is requiring "RTO" to a distant location, that isn't RTO at all, that is movement of work that involves relocation. Representing that kind of situation as "RTO" is a complete lie.

But, I don't see error on the company's part if the RTO only reinstates the status quo prior to the pandemic.

Here's how it is. I used to work 4x the required work units until my newly hired female boss with a business degree from a 3rd rate State University who related to a VP level
and never spliced came out to my work site & wrote me up for no cones out on a Cul de Sac. That would have been fine except I answered a assignment call on the way to my work site and had just pulled over, I wasn't there 5 seconds with no time to set the cones and I see her. So as she walks up to my truck I take down the new splice instructions. She didn't want to here it - just wrote me up. She can't splice but she knows how to work her Bic Click. Later she comes out and looks for insect repellent in a box, writes me up on that but I was still working there. That day, I decided to give her exactly what the work units require AND I started banking work for bad weather days.
So don't call us lazy, taking advantage or anything else. Oh and the plats that I work don't include travel to site time as that's included in the work units load.

Anyone who claims to be taking advantage of the situation by slacking off, purposely doing the least possible, gaming the system, etc. was like that before the DTV and Warner Media mistakes. You simply are either joking or have found a reason to continue being lazy and unproductive like you’ve always been. Now you are probably worse. I guess some people are right when they say T has dead weight compared to other telcos. Ever wonder if these cuts are because of you and your unwillingness to contribute to revenue so that more jobs might be spared? It always comes back to bite you. Your on the dead weight list so don’t be angry when you’re next because you’ll get what you deserve- more time off.

Cable splicer here. I work the load every day & it takes about 3 hours to meet requirement, then I sit on a butt box or in my truck, listen to the radio or watch old movies or Friends on my iPhone. Daily. Even get some overtime after my 4 hr me time.
Thanks AT&T .
I love this place. I'll make close to $140,000 this year & my wife's health insurance is great. What's to complain about?
Yes sir, I be lovin dis place.

I swipe my badge, put my stuff in my reserved space and just hang out. I walk around the office to see all the sad faces just staring at their screens. No collaboration. All talking is on the phone or Teams meetings. I pass the time watching videos on my phone. I walk around the Atlanta campus and sit outside and snooze. Then 3:00 comes around and I leave. And I get my paycheck direct deposited in my bank, health benefits, PTO. It's a sweet deal. Not sure why people hate this place.

Good luck to the OP with that. Yeah I don’t like RTO and feel it’s a total waste of time. At least I didn’t have to relocate, I feel real bad for those folks. There is no morale at the office. Very few actually collaborate.

Yep, most of us are on borrowed time. Question is, who’s borrowed time? Either they will surplus me or I’ll find another job. Let’s see which one happens first.

You have to be a little off to work at a nut factory like ATT. Past 2 CEOs waxed shareholders for hundreds of billions and were richly rewarded for it. Milk this dying cow for everything you can.
