Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Many of us would have volunteered

People who wanted to stay are gone and those of us who were hoping to be laid off are still here. I wish we were given an opportunity to volunteer.

As a manager I would encourage those in a position to accept a layoff with a package to talk with your manager. You could save someone else’s job by doing so.

Nobody here has criticized the person who started this thread. But I do agree that you are surprised and completely shattered about it and hope that you can get by this.

If it helps you’ll have SUB, some time to relax and job search and you will wind up better off. I know of nobody who is not better off after being layed off from BNYM.

As someone who was laid off and was very surprised and completely shattered about it and esp the callous & cruel way it was done, this thread means a lot to me. Stop criticizing the person who started it.
He/she means well. It's an absurd job market right now, and I understand the dilemma.

@gvf At the risk of being pedantic, that’s the very antithesis of a “Boomer attitude.” It is in fact classic GenEx and GenZ attitude.

As a manager I would suggest voicing your feelings to your manager. We aren't going to go poll people and see who wants to be laid off when these events come up. It's hard enough on us as is. So if you're fortunate enough to be on a position where being laid off won't greatly impact you negatively then please mention it to your manager. We don't always have the opportunity to choose but in the event we do, they'll keep it in mind.
We all know this won't be the last time
