Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

There is no future at BNY Mellon

With so many layoffs, the culture that is turning from bad to worse, and management that has no idea how to solve the mounting issues, I think it's now patently obvious to everybody that there is no future here. At least not for those of us who hope to advance our careers. I know the grass is not always greener, but there have to be better options out there. I plan to start looking for them right now.

U.S. Staff. Not U.S. Staffs. It is literally second grade grammar.

It all starts with your attitude. From the posts here your careers are going nowhere. It's actually painful to read the constant whining. Like it or not this place is just about standard fair for any large corporation.

The real angst that you’re expressing is your absolute te---r to search for a new job. The lifers always are the worst whiners and complainers.

There was one layoff this year. One, in January . It was 1/2 of 1%, or 0.5%.

This has been the lightest layoff year in at least 40 years.

So, why does the paranoia grow even as the layoffs decline?

Can anybody please translate this to English?

You live in a bubble cause yes there have been and to actual talent. You know , the ones who are actually beneficial. The rest are the ones who cannot do their jobs and should’ve been let go years ago. PA and NYC get blasted every time so pay attention better. And please explain how PA is a growth location with that always happening to that location

This post must be from offshore because no educated English speaking American above the third grade would ever refer to “Staffs”. Please tell me that our educational system is not this bad…

I think that you are more than a bit delusional.

“ With so many layoffs, the culture that is turning from bad to worse, and management that has no idea how to solve the mounting issues, I think it's now patently obvious to everybody that there is no future here. ”.

There haven’t been “So many layoffs”. We’ve had one 1% layoff and one 0.5% layoff. I’ve worked here a long time (won’t say how long because people hate hearing it) and this is the lowest number of layoffs since the 10% per year 2000 to 2008 layoff era.

There’s a lot of lousy benefits cuts, low raises and successful attempts by Robin to steal our 401K contributions and other games… but “So many layoffs” is totally untrue. We are in a historically long 2 1/2 year ultra low layoff environment.

Could it be possible that Roman Regelmann has convinced Senior Leadership that he has automated so much that we can now layoff Operations teams?

You may have a hard time understanding their English, just as we do with your’s.

@4qny, I was replaced by an H1B worker who sits in PA. That's how.

Some of you are beyond clueless. Seriously sitting on here saying there haven’t been significant layoffs . You live in a bubble cause yes there have been and to actual talent. You know , the ones who are actually beneficial. The rest are the ones who cannot do their jobs and should’ve been let go years ago. PA and NYC get blasted every time so pay attention better. Nope. Staffing costs of Operations areas are viewed as being too high. That will continue to be trimmed back at a steady rate. RTO status will make identification of people easier in some cases but make no mistake - staffing costs are the driver. You seem to think that because it’s not in periodic “big booms”, it’s not happening. Lower numbers at a steady pace are a means for avoiding headlines and panic. It’s kind of like the frog in the pot who doesn’t realize he’s being boiled until it’s too late.

With no significant layoff since Scharf August 2018, we’re through the layoff era. Now it’s all about targeting people for cause, mostly for noncompliance for RTO.

Staff is plural. Staffs is gibberish.

Allow me to guess, University of Phoenix drop out?

no, I just dropped out from University of Birds and enroll in Pittsburgh high school now. Can I go to your home to learn English 6 days a week. Dare to post your address here?

There actually have not been appreciable layoffs in the past 3 years. But by all indications that will be changing rapidly. Expect that management has a list of all of the employees who gave them a lot of difficulty with returning to work.

Robin can be very vindictive from rumors that I’ve heard.

Layoffs are nothing knew to anyone who has been here. It’s no different at any other place you go too that isn’t fast food. Is it annoying? Yes. Do they pick good useful people when there are cr-ppy people who should go ? Yes. This is all thanks to your leaders who don’t know how to budget or run a company

I'm not disagreeing with OP, however... try reading industry news or subscribing to them. We aren't the only one in this boat. Charles Schwab just laid off 2,000 workers a week or two ago

The Mumbai Representative Office of The Bank of New York Mellon was set up in 1983 and continues to serve as BNY Mellon's main liaison point for our Indian client base. BNY Mellon Technology Private Limited, a technology development, technology operations and remote infrastructure management services company came into the BNY Mellon family in 2003. BNY Mellon International Operations (India) Private Limited was set up in 2004 to provide global operations service capabilities to BNY Mellon. In 2013, Pershing India Operational Services Private Limited (Pershing India) was established in Chennai. Currently, we have over 12,000 employees across our three locations: Mumbai, Pune and Chennai.

1983 was before internet era, so 2004 was the year BNY started to outsource US jobs to India. The outsourcing has been going on for 19 years.

@OP

You simply can’t make this stuff up. A big scary layoff utterly fails to materialize and we get this gem: “There is no future at BNY Mellon. With so many layoffs, the culture that is turning from bad to worse, and management that has no idea how to solve the mounting issues”.

It su-ks to work here but layoffs haven’t been an issue.since Charlie left.

I suggest that he lifers begin job hunting before the inevitable layoff does occur.

Let the senior managers lay off all the US staffs, so they work with the BNY Indian staffs directly every day. (I have a hard time understanding their English, they use classroom words which doesn't sound natural in an office setting) Let the senior managers fix all the wrong numbers on the files that the Indian staffs complies every day. Let them taste their own medicine. I am looking for a new job now.
