Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO

Return to the office people. AT&T pays you and directed you to RTO. Otherwise, you could be next on the surplus list.

I honestly do not get the visceral response to people going back to the office. I have been VO for almost 20 years and have been a top performer all of those 20 years and if the company feels I need to go back to the office then thats their choice.

The moving on the other hand I can see people being pi---d but the number of people who were only VO due to Covid and are bi--hing makes absolutely no sense to me at all. If you were only VO because of the lockdown why are you so mad about going back in? Those of us that have been VO for almost 20 years seem like the ones who should be upset about it the most but it does not seem we are... Asking for a friend... :)

This has been my strategy since 7/11. If a badge swipe's all they care about, I can do that.

"How about I RTO and do only half my work. Hey at least I’m in the office."

Why are you so worried about it? Really, it's not your problem. Focus on your job and what you control. Isn't it a waste of time and stressful to agonize over things that really don't matter and you can't even control?

Must su-k to be such a control freak in a world in which you have no control.

They need to get rid of people so they can meet the 2 billion dollars savings they promised in last quarter earnings report. Bottom line, to hit their free cash flow targets, they have to get rid of more people.

We are are the surplus list regardless if we RTO. Go get bent.
Stankey has to pay for several bad business decisions.

By the way. The cuts are going to be traveling upward though the "leadership" chain. As Martha Stewart would say "That's a good thing".

"AT&T pays you..."

This is the kind of peasant mentality that holds so many people back.

AT&T is buying my service, labor and skills. They're not giving me any gifts, and they sure as he-l don't get a say in where I live or how I work. All they can do is decide they don't to buy from me anymore, and it's perfectly fine. They did that, and I moved on to a better company, with better pay, and I'm happy to provide my services to them instead. Thanks for that severance AT&T, I used less than 20% of it before I found a great position elsewhere.

“Why is it that everyone works so much harder at home?”

I would guess that they are happier in general, not to mention an increase in morale.

It is a soft layoff and screams leadership cowardice, but what do you expect from the Stink?

You don't do half the work. Never have. You just want to WFH so nobody sees how little work you really do.

Return To Work while you’re at it. It has been years for many.

“i do less in the office” my guess is you do the same amount but with all the personal items completed during WFH, you do work during a larger portion of the day which makes you feel like you work more.

It serves plenty of value for T. They need to get rid of 15,000 people, but they don't want to pay for severance or unemployment insurance. By telling people to relo on their own dime, a huge number will just quit instead. Net Income problem solved!! If you think there is any other legit reason.... you're wrong.

I rather WFH - sleep in, mow the lawn, play with kids, cruise the internet.

I’ve been RTO since July. I do my 3x per week as directed. I still think it was a d-mb move and serves no value. Not everyone needs to be in an office to do their job. Not everyone has a need or ability to collaborate with others. I was far more effective working from home, I also was more available to handle things WFH. Now I do my time and go home, don’t bother me until the next day. Oh btw, for 11 years now I have received an Exceeds rating, I even received a Far Exceeds one year. But I guess I wasn’t doing my job WFH huh? I do far less now I’m in the office.
