Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

GN&T and GTS were hit

GN&T was hit hard, but GTS riff’ed some very important people that have dedicated decades to Verizon. There will be massive knowledge walking out the door. I feel for everyone. So sorry

This is not sarcasm. Thank you for the explanation and laying it all out. I genuinely wanted to know the decision making process and there are more factors than meets the eye.

In response to the prior poster's question: "I am aware of someone who is important to several groups yet is being let go. I'm not sure how the organization determines who will stay and who will go."
There is a fairly easy method for releasing individuals:

  1. length of time with the company: the longer you stay, the greater the likelihood that you will leave You've got
  2. Age: As you get older, your chances of being let go increase significantly because you score higher than younger people.

3- Salary: You are more likely to be let go if you are in a pay grade or band that is no longer provided.
4-Medical costs: Well, medical costs... Both ATT and Verizon are self-insured. The more medical debt you have, the more likely it is that you will be let go because UHC, Aetna, and other organizations are only handling the procedure for them.
After totaling up all of the scores, they create a line and a stack ranking. Either a manager or a group completes it.
At the top of the list are those with the highest scores. relates nothing to skill, allegiance, or work ethics. It is intended to close the immediate budget gap so that the CEO may demonstrate a small improvement in the books and receive their bonuses for the current quarter.

Contrary to the poster down below … yes the company is still going after 2019 VSP .. but as a network person that is involved deeply … the quality, reliability, redundancy and ability of the employees to resolve issues has been reduced dramatically…. It’s so much worse of a network than pre 2019 and it’s amazing that leadership hasn’t been rif’d …. The wheels are coming off .. watch

I know of one who is being let go who is key to multiple groups. Really don't understand how the company decides who is going to go and who is going to stay. This individual's boss is a mo--n at best and remains untouched. Much institutional knowledge will leave and management does not care. Too busy creating the next volunteer event I suppose than take an interest in running the company.

It's unfortunate, but there will be no more knowledge walking out the door this time then there was in 2018/2019 with the VSP. And yet, the company keeps humming along. True, the stock price is much lower, but the work that needs to be done is still getting done. Somehow we each successive RIF and/or outsourcing, the company survives. My guess is their eventual goal is 25% employees and the rest contractors or managed services of some sort or another. I wish the best for all those impacted today.
