I'm busy maybe half a day and that's it. It's been like this for the last few months. I've tried to talk to my manager but it got me nowhere. I'm worried this means my days here might be numbered. Has anybody experienced anything similar? Am I just being paranoid or should I be worried?

I’ve been feeling the exact same way.
They are laying people off (terminating) for performance management
I think some managers are losing their minds with trying to get rid of the people that keep them employed
But brains do not come with titles/promotions
Word on the street is the bank is running around 212,800 and wants to trim another 5 or 6,000 in 2024. Obviously they would love this through retirement and attrition but layoffs are on the table.
Maybe you should be considered a slack resource saved for especially difficult problems.
Some teams are safe some teams are in jeopardy for layoffs. Most of the contractors are going to roll off by feb is the rumor
I wouldn't read too much into it. There is a lot going on right now in terms of Org changes and future alignments so it may just be the calm before the storm while things are figured out. All you can do is deliver on what comes your way, be open to take on more and use the opportunity to volunteer and gather knowledge (WBTs, HBR articles, etc).
It will pick up. If a team has a project that was dependent on funding that was pulled back, that could be why that is happening. Certainly a good time to volunteer for assisting other teams if that is possible and learning.
What department are you? Some LOBs are 5 people understaffed.
same here, my manager is hiding from me. I have started looking outside the Bank, got some good leads with better pay.
