@OP+1pw37pkO Keep working at Ford. Your tune will change. You think Bill Ford & Jim Farley know what they are doing? stock price below $10. $142Bn of debt. one plant accounts for 54% of your profits. And those vehicles start out at $75k.. Not what you would call affordable to the masses.
I retired took the LUMP Sum. That shows you how much confidence I have in the senior team.
Yeah I bet you are proud to see Ford loose $37k per EV. Lets have a standing ovation for that. Oh but both Jim an Billy were given over $16mn in ford stock.
Bills accomplishment well the Train station. another "money pit". If his last name was not Ford he would have been fired a long time ago.
As one poster stated this started at FORD 2000. As soon as Explorer sales started to tank in the 2000s Ford was doomed. all those products except F-Series were gone.
Farley is suppose to be a marketing guy, but I have yet to see what he has done to deserve to have the right to criticize his engineers, when all he has done is NOTHING. PROVES ONE THING. RANK DOES NOT MEAN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
Billy his track record speaks for itself. spring of 06 Pretty much fired by his own family That is public record.
Glad I retired and took the lump sum. Feel sorry for those left to be lead by such incompetent management. Clueless no vision or plan. Keep reorganizing every 12-18 months.

@3zhi+1pw37pkO yes it is true that they are hiring and promoting unqualified DEI candidates. But watch closely, they set them up for failure and chop them later. Ford has been playing this game for decades. In the late 90s they had a big push to promote women en-masse. They purposely excluded the competent women from the promotion lists. Almost overnight they promoted loads of incompetent women to meet an HR objective. This same thing repeated with the mass Indian promotions.

The problem now is that competent LLx are few and far between as the incompetent only promote those who are also incompetent. They exploit the competent then fire them. Too big of a threat to keep them.

I've never seen so many babies worried about what other people are doing.

The DEI garbage is terrible. Bill Ford and Jim Farley are worried about their woke score. It's pathetic and doesn't lend itself to success.

Crying about stopping what you're doing to prepare for a meeting is hilarious. Most meetings you can work right through. Realize you're a piece in the puzzle.

In wfh I put in more than 40 hours most of it during the normal business hours of operation but flex hours for doctors appointments. Best part is it does not allow management to assign work on a whim resulting in staying late past normal working hours. Wfh prevents management from squeezing unpaid hours out of me thus increasing their "efficiency per employee". I don't think that is quiet quitting just fair. Hire more non-dei north American citizen workers.

This is NOT new news! Same as it has always been at Ford. 20% of the employees carry 80% of the rest.

What difference does it make? Even those that are busy and working hard will have most of their work thrown in the trash before long because leadership priorities are absurd.

It all depends on what department and group you are in.

There are groups that are 100% milking the company. These are the parking lot groups that managers create to increase the # of employees to justify promotions. One notable group produces KPI reports. In that group 80% are full time MBA students at Lawrence Tech, the others push a button daily to generate meaningless reports and email them to managers. There are numerous groups throughout Ford like this

There are groups where 90% are milking the company. In these one or two people typically do all the work and the rest twiddle their thumbs and sling rocks. Infrastructure teams like DBA, network, security, automation, mainframe are prime examples, These teams also practice eat (fire) the most competent, so to be fair the remaining are not capable of doing the work, ergo the continual need for purchased services.

There are some groups where 30% are milking the company. In these most of the milkers took a package, and the rest are hanging on for their package

The 80% the OP states is all perspective. Are 80% of the departments at Ford inefficient? No doubt. 80% of employees milking it every day? Probably not.

I don't know where within ford the @OP works, but everyone I work with is over taxed. I spend a LOT of time in meetings, and therefore preparing for meetings, which significantly impacts the amount of time I can dedicate to productive work. Literally everyday last week I had to stop work on projects to prepare for something last minute my supervisor asked for. Additionally, the week before on Thursday, out of the blue, my team was told we had to submit our final end of year Ford Performance + assessment by COB the next day because our director wants it, which means we had to drop what we're doing and once again work on things that don't really matter. We're literally 2 months away from the end of the 4th quarter and this is a priority? Personally, I feel like a horse that's been whipped so many times I don't respond to the whip anymore. I care very much about what I do, but I'm tired.

Given this absurd and baseless post, I would assume you are in HR, not engineering.

Don't blame anyone for this. The company has molded the employees to be that way. There is. I appreciation for the hard work, so why should I work hard for this company. No recognition, no rewards, not even a thank you.

People are hired in because of their color, black and female are top priority. See if you can get these black peoples to do any work or get any thing done right. Majority of the workers at Ford are black. So look at the products and you can see how bad they are.

Other employees are seeing the results, they are disappointed and there is no motivation to do better. Best of luck to those who chose to stay with Ford.

@OP. I don't completely agree with your statement. Unless you are applying the 80/20 rule, IDK where you are getting that number.

Yes, there are people milking the company big time. We called them "managers", starting with the id--ts at the top. These managers not only receive a lot of $$$ for taking the wrong decisions and playing fiefdom, but they have an extensive list of FnF (Friends and Family) with jobs at Ford doing nothing.

Then we have a bunch of pencil pushers, which many companies have, but we have them in greater quantities, since many managers think that processes are more important than solutions. Some of the pencil pushers are usefull, but most are just complicating matters.

Finally, we have the doers, a decreasing amount of those thanks to targeted layoffs, retirement, attrition and better offers in other companies. Some of them still work hard, some of them are stressed out and their productivity have declined, some of them were moved to the wrong positions by their managers (envy, jealousy), and many receive contradictory requests from their managers.

I have seen how these technical guys had to redo the same work a few times, thanks to the whims that comes with every change of underwear from their managers. I have seen how nobody wants to be in charge of anything (and projects have stopped, postponed or archived because of this). Most important of all, among all the uncertainty and the big mess that we are now, there is a lack of leadership.

So please spare me the BS of 80% milking the company, when it is the sole responsibility of management to select the right candidates, make sure they have the right workload and that is delivered in time, clear the obstacles for their teams, and be accountable for the failures, not just for the "successes".

CEO did say openly that the work force is not what he needs to deliver products. So, there is no room for more damage. It is not milking. It is is all about honoring CEO's request and enjoy the ride (up or down?).
