Manager upset that I dont turn on camera during meetings

Didn’t even know this was a norm and everyone did this. How am I supposed to know if the manager doesn’t turn on camera first or tell me.

I prefer the camera off. Don't want to see people playing with their nose. You know who you are! Sorry to everyone else.

RPJ's tractor tipped on him and he sustained fatal injuries. Pro-tip: if you are a manager, you have lost any blue-collar skills you may have had in the past.

I'm no longer in Ford, but you would be surpised now when interviewing over zoom/webex/teams they say turn my camera on, but 80-90% of the people interviewing me that are in management dont turn there camera on. Its a two way street, your camera is off, my camera is going off. If they question me why my camera is off, its busted.

Are you afraid of having your camera on? This is a reasonable request. Studies show communication and collaboration are significantly improved with face to face visibility. Even if on a screen.

You can still be n@ked from the waist down and they will never be any the wiser. Just don't stand up.

My former boss gave me a bad review because I had a roll of bubble wrap in my cube for a week to box and wrap presents. He wrote in the review that I was “insubordinate and made fun of others”. I called him out on it and asked for an example. He said was making fun of him by having bubble wrap in my cube. I was WTF are you talking about? He just went on a tirade.
I mentioned it to a coworker and he cracked up. Before I was in the group the team went on a community service event. The boss volunteered to drive the backhoe and tipped it over and sustained minor injuries. As a joke some people had bubble wrapped every item in his cube including adding a Tonka backhoe. The boss didn’t like the joke at all. Somehow he thought years later I was making fun of him by having bubble wrap in my cube.
I immediately started applying for other positions as the LL6 was clearly unwell. Narcissist with substance abuse issues.

My former manager was mad when I bought an expensive Hermes purse and brought it into the office.

Dude get smarter than your manager. Put a background up in your video that is a picture of you sitting on a chair, turn your camera on but have your laptop facing away from you.
Then you can carry on working / watching the meeting on your alternate monitors and keyboard.

Some people need to put a face with a person. They can’t deal with just voices.

A tip you can change it up and sometimes have your dog/cat sitting next to you/ on your lap. I’ve gotten comments on how cute and well behaved my dog is LOL

There is more the manager is mad at you over other than the camera. Unfortunately, most Ford managers can’t handle conflict and don’t know how to constructively communicate, so this is all your boss could articulate. You are not participating and working hard enough. You need to step it up, or you will be on the next layoff list.
