Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Very poor timing

Gather all your veterans together one day to celebrate and honor their service to our country and lay a bunch of them off the next day. When our director pulled us all together to make the RIF announcement he made sure to mention how the layoffs were done with compassion and dignity. The level of stupidity is shocking.

It looks like the devil worshippers are on fire with all the downvoting. Diversity instead of university destroyed the company, divided the nation, and puts our neighbors at risk. They should not be surprised or whine too much when people don't treat them like everyone else.

The enemy is not only inside the gates but inside the company. When it doubt rat them out. See something say something. They are not playing for the same team you are. Forewarned is forearmed.

I agree with many of you above. Verizon's media relations team controls the message to make it look like the company cares. It's not real, along with all the other DEI initiatives -- it's done to simply to look like a good corporate citizen. The company does not care about you as an employee, you are expendable when the time comes. They do what they have to do to minimize the legal exposure in layoffs and appear compassionate -- another misimpression. Exploit the training, pay, and benefits Verizon provides and prepare to leave or find another position with a company that has a real sense of mission and purpose and that does care about its employees and causes.

My family and I committed over 20 years to Verizon. I am a service connected disabled Veteran and was a member of the Valor ERG for many years. I mentored numerous Verizon Leaders. The business and culture is a falsehood and simply a front to gain political, corporate & media icon status. On a good-foot, Verizon did forward me the opportunity to gain an education, raise a family and support my personal & professional goals. There is and likely will always be a 6 month RIF & layoff until leadership changes. There is no accountability at the top. There is only an agenda. My advice to employees is stay focused on what is most important to YOU!

Yep, I was sure to respond directly to the VP of my Org after he had the gall to send out a Happy Veterans Day message to everyone the day after the 11/9 RIFs with the usual BS. Thanked him for his service (he is a vet as well it seems) and reminded him how much Verizon thought of me, my 20 years of service to Verizon and being a Vet myself that they RIFed me as well.

I received a 'Verizon Valor' - painting t-shirt and 'challenge coin' - via FedEx a couple of days after I was laid off after decades in the house. The place is an absolute joke under the current crew. Ironically, Ivan, a Viet Nam Veteran, and once-upon-a-time New York City below-ground Splicer treated fellow Veterans like trash at the company because there were so many, as well as too many 'I ran from Viet Nam' execs.

So if you are part of the 6% be proud that you are part of a very small club with experiences the other 94% will never understand. 'You had to be there'.

Because you were there you know that that the goings on here are no big deal. Adapt, improvise, overcome. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.
