Differences between refineries

Anyone has first hand experience working at/with multiple refineries?

How is culture different at the sites you know?
What are other key differences related to working there?

Other interesting personnel related facts?

@ 1fww+1pyNmiGX this is very true. Transfers into refineries beware.

Beaumont appears to have some of the lowest morale / most toxic culture especially combined with the “stay/work late” culture. Don’t sleep on the culture at Canadian sites though, Nanticoke is so bad that it is notorious to outside groups (I.E. projects, marketing, midstream) as impossible to deal with because everyone at the refinery is so competitive and out for themselves. Sarnia had a huge problem with treating minorities and women horribly but maybe that’s gotten better recently. Strathcona is the worst of them all IMO, it’s fake we are a team happy but actually hyper competitive/ work late culture and bullying under a facade of helping each other.

Recommend Baytown. Still not great but not as bad as the others.

Be careful at any refinery if you do not have a Sponsor.
Ranking will favor Chosen sponsored persons first, then long term locals with connections, then new arrivals pushed to bottom in each rank group.

Beaumont is not doing well because BR manager rejects were sent there and they aren’t accustomed to the camelion lta folks that run the br area.

I’ve worked at several, agree Beaumont su-ks. Some have more money and higher morale, some are surviving on a shoestring budget with toxic managers and are not fun. Some have teams that compete to see who can stay the latest, whereas others promote more of a work-life balance unless sh*t hit the fan in a unit. Turnarounds are all terrible no matter the refinery it seems.
