Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Resignation questions

I have a couple of questions about resigning around year-end:

If we have a 30 day notice period, does BNYM have to pay you for that full period if they ask you to stop working immediately?

In my area, most people are asked to stop working immediately if going to another financial institution- is that still happening?

If you resign in January after receiving your bonus information but before it’s paid, will the bank change it?

If you resign prior to January, are you ineligible for the bonus?

And make sure to ask for a sign on bonus that matches the 401K match you will be leaving on the table.

Don't resign and get your bonus. Also when does the 401k get matched?

My manager stole my entire balance when I retired even though I followed the Bank’s good leaver policy to a T. Never trust a payment before it’s in your pocket.

Agree with others. I’ve seen bonuses clawed back. Don’t resign before you receive your bonus.
If your new firm needs you to start sooner they can give you a sign on to cover the bonus you are leaving behind.

Do not resign until the paycheck after your bonus hits. They can absolutely stop your bonus from hitting or even clawing back your bonus. I’ve seen it done numerous times.

If you give 30 days notice and they tell you to stop coming in, they will pay you the 30 days. Do NOT give your resignation until the bonus is in your hands.
