Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do you want to talk about layoffs?

Hi, My name is Nupur Anand I am a journalist with Thomson Reuters, I cover Wells Fargo. I understand that the bank has been downsizing and I would want to learn more about the departments being affected and the processes involved. I completely understand that this is a very sensitive topic as it is about someone's job and life and so I can assure you I will be as respectful as possible. Your identity can also be kept completely anonymous, if you would prefer that. Please feel free to reach out to me via email on nupur.anand@tr.com. You can also find me on Linkedin or Twitter.

Hi everyone, I am reading every single message in here and I am still very keen to understand a few things. And thanks for the suggestion that I should read some of the previous threads, I appreciate it. It has been very insightful. However, I cannot use information from here for my article. I will need to talk to employees directly, therefore, I would urge you to talk to me. Once again, your identity will be kept anonymous, don't worry about that. You can reach out to me via email, LinkedIn, Twitter or drop me a message and we can connect on Signal. Bests, Nupur

After all that has been written on this chain, Ms Anand has practically no response. No questions. No comments. Zero. Either she is a fake, or like many, can’t read, or is lying.

Just got an invite to a 15 minute call with a Sr Mgr that I have never spoken to before. It is scheduled on a Tuesday after payday. I am assuming that its my notification. Is it typical to schedule it out a month in advance?

I will be happy to speak with you once my severance ends. Age discrimination was a huge factor in layoffs. They will deny it but anyone over 50 WTH 25 years plus was axed

Ms Anand,
As some wrote, if you go thru this site over a few weeks, you should be able to piece together major areas of concern. That should help you identify top issues.
Have you gone thru this site?

Ms Anand,
The list of observations is a long one and reflective of a company that is pursuing policies that hurt itself, its employees, the financial industry and the country at large.
It will be challenging to say the least to have current employees talk to you. Past employees - may be.
All companies engage in some deviations from the expected, but what distinguishes Wells is that it systematically does the wrong thing, until it gets caught. Or when an employee sues.
One example - RTO. Not saying if that is right or wrong. But if someone refuses to RTO, they coerce the employee to resign voluntarily when actually it’s a firing. This is intent to deceive. And is illegal. And has been the case in various Technology organizations.
This deception is continuing. And should be investigated.
This is a nominal example. Other examples like open managerial harassment and discrimination against skilled employees, cannot be written up here..much of which is in the Technology sector.

Today we had the Global Q4 Meeting where various leaders talked about how 2023 went and their goals for 2024.

  • one senior leader talked about how attrition was DOWN and how that was a good thing and Wells Fargo should be proud of it?? tone deaf and bizarre
  • all leaders on the call talked about visiting the india teams and shared pictures of them in meetings with the new employees in india. the only leader who had anything specifically constructive to say about the company was a new indian lead who talked about wanting to clarify process ownership/focus on quality rather than volume/etc, the rest seemed checked out
  • they performed an extremely awkward skit where two of them talked about how great it was to be in the office instead of WFH and how much they loved seeing each other in their office
  • at the end of the meeting they confirmed charlie's comments but said that "nothing is down in ink yet"

after the meeting i checked the internal job hub, I saw that india was the second highest location accepting jobs. My location, which used to be a busy hub that had 20-30 openings at any given time, only had three postings.

Hello everyone, just wanted to mention that if communicating via signal is a better option then pls let me know and I will be happy to share details with you directly. I also wanted to highlight that you can also be "off the record" which means that the information you give will not be used in my article directly, instead, I will use it only as tip/research to reach out to more people who are willing to talk. To some of the others doubting, we don't do articles based just on anonymous messages, this is only one of the steps and methods and we go through several other rigorous steps to ensure that what we are writing is factual and accurate. Once again, my email is in there and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions/doubts/concerns/ or you just want to talk. Thanks

I think most of the negative comments to this post are from one (unprofessional) person who should be shut down. How else is a reporter supposed to reach out to employees? Some of the most valuable insight to the scandals at Wells Fargo have come from employees who were brave enough to reach out to the press. Let this man do his job and maybe everyone will benefit.

The story is easy. Scharf has had four years to get the asset cap lifted. And there is still no idea when that will happen.

So he is slashing American jobs and outsourcing others to India & Philippines because he has a target efficiency ratio he has to reach. And he can’t grow the bank to improve the efficiency ratio because he has failed to do his primary job with the asset cap.

The board of directors has failed its duty to hold Scharf to the fire over the asset cap.

To someone who commented earlier questioning the email format. Yes, you can reach out to me on nupur.anand@thomsonreuters.com OR nupur.anand@tr.com. We use both formats for email. A google search can also show you some of the recent articles on Wells Fargo that I have written. Alternatively, you can DM me on LinkedIn or Twitter, if you think that would be a safer space. Bests.

Thank you for the outpoint towards the comments here and I have gone through a few but need to talk to people to understand it in detail. Unfortunately, I cannot use comments from here. And just in clarification for what someone said earlier, your comments will be completely on background which means that nothing that could potentially reveal your identity will be disclosed. It would just say something like--said a Wells Fargo employee/former employee. That's all.

What @mzs+1q38hqGS said….

Just look at the growth in India for Wells Fargo versus the layoffs here.

And 90% of the ones working in IT are from India anyways. And all they hire are their friends from India, it’s really bad. Wells Fargo is basically anti-American when it comes to IT 🤷🏻‍♂️

To OP, just go through all the threads and I am sure you will be able to piece together what is going on. At the top of the house, inept management, hiring of Buddy’s, DEI tokens.
Mistrust , conflicting stories, no strategy or goals .
Managers that are not suited for their job to grow talent. Senior leaders that bicker between each other and to their staff. RTO nonsense, Poor customer service. CIO that is in over her head and only knows how to outsource. Toxic workplace, No soul or compassion. Leaders lack of accountability or vision. The list goes on…..
