No, you can not - not for yourself if you were the Ford employee. However, the law says that your dependents can extend it for another 9 months if their is a 2nd life qualifying event such as your own death.

But sadly the COBRA law is ducked up; after 9 months, the rate Ford charges is no cheaper than the market place anyway. Obamacare my a-s…

The health plans on the healthcare.gov site are a joke. They cost as much or more then the ford cobra plan, and the deductibles are a joke. Most are $7000-$9000 for single person. Unless you plan on living in the hospital no one will hit that deductible for a single person in one year.

Move to another country and live like a king with your pension fund. Insurance in other countries only cost 1/10 of what's in the US. SOUTH America, Southeast Asia are the best.

Why would Ford extend Cobra beyond the legal 18 month requirement? They pushed older employees out because they wanted to get them off the Ford Health plan before they developed some expensive medical issue.

Go to Heathcare.gov and get your healthcare there - real easy to do and many options way more affordable than cobra !

Of course, they’re not going to extend cobra for the salary workers. If they did, that would mean less bonuses for the greedy ba----ds at the top. Why would they do anything for the non-represented employees? They claim we’re all a big family??. But Ford operates under - Sc--w the family members which you can get away with. What a jock this place has turned in to.

COBRA is federally regulated to last 18 months. Anything beyond that is a contractual relationship between you and your previous employer. Good luck.

The answer is it depends. You can find the rules here - https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ebsa/about-ebsa/our-activities/resource-center/faqs/cobra-continuation-health-coverage-consumer.pdf

I had same question. I called Blue Cross few months back, they claim call Ford and maybe they can. Knowing Ford I doubt it.
