Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Principal Engineer compensation

Can you guys share a typical package for a principal engineer role? I gave an interview with security BU and it went well. 23 years of experience overall, I am currently with a competitor with the same title.

Senior manager can be grade 11 or 12. Starting manager can be grade 10 or 11. Is this correct ?

The job title Principal Engineer at Cisco is significantly more senior than the same job title at other tech companies I have worked at.

My experience has been the opposite. I've never worked extensively with any at Cisco who had any understanding of anything, from hardware to software to systems to relevant technologies to engineering and business processes surrounding development. Basically they "write" (plagiarize) self contradictory white papers which bring negative value because we have to pay others to tear them apart in reviews. When they've had some say in development they've caused some of Cisco's most significant products to ship either years late or never. They are the Dilbert principle personified.

The only thing that is "significantly more" at Cisco is the number of artificially created levels between Engineer 1 and Distinguished Engineer, and even at the DE level they have at times been called in to do bug fixing. Development at Cisco is the worst I've ever seen.

Same grade pays different in different ORGS. grade 13 in BU different than grade 13 in CX.

"I gave an interview ..."
Definitely not a native English speaker. You do an interview. If you're at PAN, stay there unless you want to make less. In addition, Cisco Security BU is sinking.

The job title Principal Engineer at Cisco is significantly more senior than the same job title at other tech companies I have worked at. Cisco’s job title Technical Leader I/II is more in line with what other companies call Principal Engineer.

In similar lines to what OP asked, I am curious to know how much a distinguished engineer paid.
