Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Every Quarter Like Clockwork, I roll my 401-K Match from ATT to something else,

anything else 99% of the time the past 20 years would have you in a better position than if you kept it in ATT stock. I suggest everyone do the same. Hoping for a rebound with this management crew is useless. I mean look at those at the top. Stankey, Van Buzzkirk, Legg, Lee, Hogg, Deschores....Definition of the Gang that Can't Shoot Straight. They are all looking to milk this dying puppy for all that it is worth and hit the eject button with bags full of cash. If you continue to have faith in this company as if it is some bastion of glory and sense of pride, you are nuts and a big time su-kahhh! Milk the clock, check in once in a while, make an appearance, cash the check, collect the benes, and ride it out as long as possible but don't let them take an ounce of flesh from you. Peace Out and Continue to soak this entity for all that you can!

If T stock goes up 10% in a year the div yield will not be 7%. Just saying. Should probably understand how div yield works. I mean if you don’t give a agit about the underlying asset being worthless then yea by all means put all your money on ATT. By comparison money market and CD rates are what 4.5 to 5.5% right now???

"...Some folks are married to another T employee, have a ton of T stock..."

I don't doubt this is true but it's still hard to fathom. I mean, are they just completely unaware the stock has gone the wrong way for 25 years? During the longest bull market run in history for a lot of that time? Just unbelievable people that work here could be that oblivious.

Never have all your eggs in one basket. Some folks are married to another T employee, have a ton of T stock and their pensions are from T. Not good

The 401k plan match contributions are not company stock. It’s an index fund driven by the stock performance so not a 1:1. Here is the entry from Fidelity. I moved all of mine as well since the performance over the last few years has been terrible. There was one small rise in value during the time Stanky has been in position but that has long since been erased. My money went into other funds with much better performance.

A fund that pools your money with that of other employees to buy AT&T Shares and an amount of short-term investments (cash equivalents) designed to allow you to buy or sell without the usual trade settlement period for individual stock transactions. The fund is 'unitized,' meaning your ownership interest in the fund is measured in units of the fund instead of individual shares of stock.

It's $15 a share, why not just keep it for the dividends?

Just a quick reminder, if you move money out of your 401k or pension and then are laid off within 6 months, , you will not be eligible for rehire. It’s in the new layoff rules. It’s archaic and unfair, but they go through it with you on the FAQs on the final bye bye call. Been there, done that.

The professional financial management company that contracts with T to offer employees their services does the same if you sign up with them to manage your 401K. Which is somehow just fitting.

I move it every month to something that actually has a chance of making money. They should just put the company match to where we allocate our other funds instead of matching it with worthless company stock.

You should never have more than 10% of your investment in one stock. Ideally less than 5%. It’s not just ATT. Enron, Worldcom, Bearstearns employees all got wiped out by overloading on their company’s stock.

Or maybe T is up 10% in the next 12 months plus the 7% dividend. I'm getting richer!

I would wait for the stock recover more before I would invest in AT&T.

I move it every month. I don't want the Stink to have any of my hard earned Toxic-T $ a second longer than necessary!

Same here, the match contribution moves as soon as I can. Only once have I had to transfer while down a couple hundred dollahs but that's alright, better somewhere else than betting on a house of cards.
