Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

offshoring lies

Have now heard the same lie from multiple executives.
"We're ramping up our India office to have around the clock development".

Have yet to ever see overseas technology assignments being on the same projects as domestic ones where different people are modifying the same exact piece of code at different times of the day. It just doesn't work.

It also pretty much makes their argument that we have to collaborate a big lie. If they want around the clock development, they aren't on the same clock cycle as domestic workers.

We have to schedule all calls with off shore before noon regardless if AT&T, IBM etc after noon no one joins a call so not sosure about the round the clock development?. I can remember a year or so back working with some off shore folks in the early PM on an issue and one offshore person actually fell asleep and was snoring on the call....We all got a good chuckle out of that,

They need to offshore Legg to India if he wants us to embrace their offshoring decisions. Am sure as soon as they force that on the executives, it will stop.

India Service managers - have no ideal how anything works. All they do is open tickets so they can do a dump job on someone stateside. A waste of company resources and money spent on a bunch of chumps who do nothing but redistribute the work as they have no skills or no idea how to the actual work.

Of course it's a lie. I heard Legg say it so enough said.

Legg made a point at his holiday town hall to laugh about the worst things people have said about him and one of them was if his lips are moving, he's lying. And another was that he was just another yes man for the Stink. And that's true also. They all have their same story line about offshoring that these are are fellow employees, blah, blah, blah.

This is no different that when AT&T outsourced to IBM and others who then off shored the work a year later. Only they have eliminated the middle man and kept any labor savings in pocket because it appears now AT&T doesn't even care that people know they are shipping work out of the country.

It's even worse that they lie about the reasons for it and try to claim it's "around the clock development" while then closing up offices in the US saying we want things centralized because of collaboration. Does anyone really believe they'll tell these overseas workers to work at the same time as in the US in the interest of collaboration? And as the OP mentioned, then that kind of blows their "24 hour development argument".

As usual, AT&T made up lies to try to soften this that don't even make sense.

“ there's nothing this company is doing that needs people working on it 24 hours a day”

Dum-best comment ever made on LO.com

Ace towers already outsourcers development work - they just asp have internal teams of people - no exec ever looks at spends holistically — it’s so broken down by SVP/EVP — they all get their allowances to send the work offshore and keep a staff who tells the outsourcer what to program. This will never change.

They will continue to off shore. No need to care about the customer who can’t understand a word they say and will eventually say fu. Much less the employees who are trying to do their job but have a pc issue that takes 5 days to get fixed. No ferry is doing my job when that happens. I’m told “not your problem “ so guess what it’s not! I don’t know what they think people do but a lot of us have pride and actually work! It’s all so stupid. Never liked money grubbing people, never will. Let people live and be happy and go shove your money up your a-s. I bet your kids hate you, if not now they will someday

that is all bs. they said the same thing when stank outsourced the sysadmins so they could have coverage 24/7 and we would not have to work at night patching systems.

that was in the early mid 2000's and any manger that objected was shown the door even though he was shown we were doing it cheaper than any outsource company. \

they lie like the rug and there is a special place in he-l waiting for the sobs.

T would offshore, Chat-Bot, AI, vendor/contract out ALL work if they could except for C-Suite & BoD to make up for ALL the BAD decisions that have been made over the recent years that put T into high debt!

The rubric performed by T’s consultant shows overwhelmingly significant cost savings by offshore consulting, engineering, customer sales, and support. It’s a tidal wave folks that no one can outrun.

"Round the clock development" is such a joke, there's nothing this company is doing that needs people working on it 24 hours a day. This is all about outsourcing work overseas, they're lying if they claim it's anything else. Technical professionals in this company really need to unionize.
