Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

What does OPEX reduction mean?

I know red and blue badge salaries are financed from different budgets. Does OPEX cut mean bad news for reds?

Nothing is off the table for reduction at Cisco. No one is protected. No one is safe. Just keep your personal finances in order and you'll be fine. If you're a contractor, you can be let go anytime so it should be a way of life.

Cisco is lazy with its OpEx/capex delineation. I mean they are registered in Delaware, so they pay fu-k all tax anyway. So they use the terms to denote cost centre and profit centre respectively. For example, transform activity is easily capex, but all of onex is OpEx, so no.

Time for the insecure wannabe overachievers start humble bragging about all the hard work they do to try to survive. Wa-kers!

Yes. CapEx = buying buildings, lab stuff and so on. OpEx = contractors, travel expenses and the like.

Are you a cost center or a profit center? OPEX = Operational Expense
CAPEX = Capital Expense

But Cisco’s definition is jacked. I’ve seen things classified as CAPEX when I would classify it as operational cost because it doesn’t actually produce value or is a sunken cost.
