Cash award

1 time cash bonus for people making under 75k. That’s some bs! The rest of us get sc--wed. I don’t make much more than that and will get nothing.

I have it on good authority that the $1,000 distributed came, down to the penny, from the general bonus pool. The firm did not allocate extra funds for this.

It is an email from Charlie. You get a 1000 cash award. You must not have a "not meets" in your review, in other words, you at least received a "Meets". You must not have earned a base of over 75k, but if overtime puts you over 75K you would still receive the cash award. You must also work until Feb 2nd. Lastly, there was something about a start date, but I don't remember.

It's not just personal experience. See the USSR, Communist China, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea and various other glorious examples. Korea is probably most instructive. Same culture, same basic resources, similar land mass, and one is a living he-l while the other is doing relatively well. Still to much socialism in the south, but the more you have the worse it gets, not the other way around. In any case, if you want to pay for other people not to produce, then get out your check book. I don't want to work and don't need luxuries, send me a check. Seriously. Why won't you? Will you only do what's right if everyone is forced to do it? These things only sound good when it's other people's money being stolen. Eventually you run out of other people's money. Always. Because really, why not waste someone else's cash?

Personal experience is not enough to assert that a social program such as the one described below won’t work. In fact, not collectively taking care of our communities may very well be why we are being bled for every little thing left in us for these corporations and ultimately, capitalism. They pay out as little as possible while gaining as much as possible / outsource hiring overseas. We can and must demand better. Definitely look into unionizing so that we have a collective voice at the table.

“That would never work. Under the current theory of massive social programs, people already won't work for more. You want to motivate people? Tell them "if you want food or shelter, you'll have to work for it". 95%+ that are currently just "taking free money" would go to work. An empty stomach is a great motivator. I know from personal experience.”

This is why UBI makes more sense in the long run. Minimum wage, as well as social programs, in theory are supposed to make it so no matter what your situation, you’ll at least be able to survive. I’d rather just give everybody enough that they’ll always be able to survive, and then any luxury beyond that, they have to work for it.

The cash award is the bank hoping that it will stop people from wanting to unionize, given that most who do unionize are at the lower end of the pay spectrum.

To those affected by this cash award:

Take the money, and still unionize.

This is exactly why minimum wages increases never work. People are never satisfied or happy about anything.

A blanket hourly/salary increase, stacked on top of merit, for the exact same amount would have been preferable, for several reasons. The people running this place aren't very good at implementing even good news.

You find out you’re getting a cash bonus and your immediate thought is to complain?

Great, after taxes it will be a tiny portion of what it is costing me in fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle I can’t afford to replace, since being forced into an office over an hour away. They just refuse to understand, don’t they?

Genuine question, if we’re trying to cut costs and push attrition why are they giving this bonus? I’m all for people getting a bump, just curious for the reason given the cuts.

Maybe not everyone is 2x the line drawn and they are a few thousand above the line and the cost of living their area is ridiculous… maybe hold off on nasty name calling when you don’t know someone’s situation.

Can someone confirm if this is true and where you got the information? I have not heard anything about this. It seems that if this was real it would definitely be talked about. $1,000 extra in my paycheck is a lot for me as I am under $75k.

Good they get this.

OP is a dirtbag whiner. Lines have to be drawn somewhere and you’re just bent you’re not in that lower bracket? Why don’t you give back enough of your salary to get back under that $75k max?

I am at 2x that cap but I’m not complaining about no RSR’s or the fact that lesser paid employees pay less for medical than I do. Get over yourself.

Wondering if this is to soften the blow of minuscule raises. Like hey here’s a thousand bucks and also a $0.03/hour raise.
