Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Current state of affairs

Market cap
AMD - $286B
INTC - $207B

Both companies directly compete in exactly the same markets and are directly comparable.

Intel should just split into a new company to breathe life back into it... If that doesn't work then re-brand and then re-brand again until people forget!

To elaborate, AMD gets to share the fab R&D and capex with all of TSMC’s customers. This is a more efficient business model as the costs and risk is spread across many players.

Since TSMC now has more volume, their economies of scale are superior to Intel and they can produce higher performance chips at a lower cost.

It is directly comparable since the output of both companies is the same.

AMD chooses to outsource fabs and generates higher returns. In other words, AMD is paying a fab cost to TSMC per chip and Intel is paying a fab cost internally per chip.

Pretty damning.

We are not directly comparable, as Intel owns fabs - you should be comparing Intel to AMD+TSMC. It shows that our IP and CPU/GPU designs are pretty much worthless.

MSFT and INTC had about the same market cap in the Wintel heydays of 25 years ago, MSFT is at $3T now - 15x INTC.

AMD and NVDA are hitting new highs almost every single day now, which is AWESOME, but it's not going to last forever so watch your holdings carefully; especially if things get nasty in Asia.

This gap will widen and Intel will have to shrink due to undeniable market forces.

And…

In case you are too clueless to draw conclusions…

This shows that Intel is completely mismanaged.

AMD generates greater value with fewer resources. This gap will widen and Intel will have to shrink due to undeniable market forces.
