A good chunk of which probably won’t actually move…standard procedure right now is to just say ‘yeah sure’ and ride it out.
I also know for a fact that a ton of wave 1 got assigned virtual, so…

We can request for backfill from TDP, but TDP lacks the skillset we need.

We were told a couple weeks ago that we can't use TDP anymore. So if we lose anyone we're sr3wed, and no one will be left to train incoming.

"With that being said, if your org/team is hit that hard, it should be up to your director and AVP to advocate for you and request virtual designation for some people on the team or extensions, etc."

Holy Cr-p, an AVP or Director advocate for their employees? I have a lot of really good supervisors/people managers at AT&T. I've worked for at least 20 and there has only been 1 douche bag. Directors and AVPs? Nearly 100% have been worthless trash playing the power games and turf wars, ready to throw an employee or team under the bus at the drop of a hat.

What's even worse if for your chain of command to be in Israel. At this point, they could care less about RTO or Waves or disruption to our lives. That's only partly because of the war. They didn't care even before the war started. And our director is too scared to push for any kind of exceptions. Its just "there's nothing I can do". I'm not actually sure that he does or can do anything. Period.

Why and I mean why are you people so obsessed with this incompetent company.

Dec 2022 I received a very nice sized bonus . Had no idea I would be receiving this bonus. Go on vacation and come back work for 2 weeks then mid Jan 23 I am surplussed. Thankfully due to my wonderful years I had at Directv you know the company AT&T ruined I had a nice severance. Sure I was shocked but I've been with a great company every since that does not have the political bs, age discrimination and complete tourture of threatening layoffs every quarter at AT&T something DIRECTV never did . Note that is DIRECTV NOT Direct TV you mo--ns. Yes I love looking on these post because I just can't help myself. Y'all act like this is a company worth stressing about and it brings me comedy. I also hope daily for a complete failure of this company. I ensure not a single person I know has an AT&T account.

For those of you young enough GET OUT you are wasting your life. Old timers I wish you all luck with lawsuits and I do mean that , this company 100% has age discrimination.

The wave 3 people are gonna be like the fat kid that sits on the outside seat on the scrambler at six flags and gets smashed and the wind knocked out of them 1000 times every time it goes around. Wave 4 and 5 will be like dried gum under the railing.

  • “We are losing half of our team. All of them are extremely hardworking and focused on key projects. All of them were back in the office full time long before the RTO mandates. The only reason they are being let go is because they are in a non-hub location. I don't even know what we're going to do. We can request for backfill from TDP, but TDP lacks the skillset we need. It's insane how blind the company is to such decisions.”

A lot of the talent can’t be replaced easily because the skill sets needed just aren’t really taught unless you’re working with it regularly (Ericsson & Nokia cell API’s for instance).
Getting rid of all these SME’s will have a huge impact and I think it’s really d-mb these ‘layoffs’ aren’t focused on business need & performance vs location.

With that being said, if your org/team is hit that hard, it should be up to your director and AVP to advocate for you and request virtual designation for some people on the team or extensions, etc.

I suspect once they see how bad some teams are decimated they will roll some of this back and make exceptions (AT&T loves playing favorites and making exceptions) that’s also why I keep giving the advice to just say you’ll move and don’t unless you have a lot of severance or another opportunity. You may just be able to run the clock down, not move, and get a last minute virtual designation because they need you.

This is going to be incredibly tough on those who's lives will be affected. But, those that are in hubs and are ordered to pick up the slack, your lives will be much worse. Its debatable on who to feel the most sorry for.

I feel for everyone who didn’t and has to make hard choices, this su-ks and the company is making a huge mistake which is why I suspect some orgs got pushed back and may even just get ‘rolled back’.

Everybody point and laugh at these management employees crying about how AT&T is managed.

Majority of "managers" aren't managing the company. It's just a term leadership uses to obscure the fact that they have the right to unionize.

Our org got pushed back to wave 3, I feel very lucky as now I have a lot of time to search for another job.

For those that didn’t, I hope you all land on your feet and the company regrets this decision.

This entire RTO initiative has been a total mess.

“not later than year-end 2024” means by the end of December 2024. Or earlier.

How can I accept the move if there is no specific date when I have to be at new location? What mor…on came up with this?

You make a great point. They should definitely give you a date before you decide. Unfortunately the decision is still the same. Move in 2024 or don’t. I say don’t.

So many inconsistencies. People who work on high priority projects, have to move by eoy. People who had BS reasons to work virtually, will do so even if they are working on dying technologies.
The ultimate decision makers on who, where and when are L3s and above in your org.

Another proof that RTO is a pure layoff. They want you to move but destination can change at any time and date of the move is not provided either. WTF!

"T has given employees more than enough time to decide whether they will relocate" No, I know of several people who were designated virtual the first round, but this morning were informed they are now part of Wave 2.

T has given employees more than enough time to decide whether they will relocate. Everyone should have already made their final decision. The letters are ready nothing more than a formality at this point since the announcement was made over a year ago. It’s time to po-p or get off the pot.

The letters are true testament to how T operates. They are proof that company has no respect to the employees. We are treated like some pieces of furniture that can be moved from room to room at any time. It is a slap in the face for those who are working here. It is shameful how this is done.

Got my letter. Funny thing is fine print that says ‘Designations may be changed at any time’. So I may accept the move and make plans to move or even move and get the notification that my designation has been changed. Bazaar!

did the letter come from an HR mailbox or your manager? My manager does not read email (or do anything else) so if they have to release it I have to tell them to do so, let me know if that is the case.

Got my letter and it does not have firm dates when I have to be at new location or when I will be off the payroll if decline the offer. Only date provided is 2.09 the deadline to accept the move. Not much detail to what we already know.

They’re out now. Not a single solid date on mine other than when they want your response by. If you decline is there really any reasonable expectation that they don’t surplus you immediately in April?
