remember that the 6% match counts towards your total compensation, base + bonus. if at the end of the year you don't contribute 6% of your total comp then then are leaving money on the table, both from the standpoint of reduced tax liability and potential match. Now if you don't think you'll still be working here come Dec 15 that is a different story. Now if you think you can make a better return on that money then by all means change your distribution for this pay period.

Many withhold 401k contribution during bonus paycheck bc they want to take the $$$ and invest it in vehicles w/better options/returns (there are many)

The IRS gets their money one way or another -- now or later.

If you set it 0% one time (effective 2/2/2024 paycheck), it automatically reverts to your prior contribution %s in next paycheck (2/16/2024). You don't need to do anything.

If you didn't chose one time, you'll need to manually change your contribution %s beginning with 2/16/2024 paycheck.

You gave away a lot of money to the IRS by not increasing your 401k contribution.

You can put it to whatever you want now. The drop dead date has passed so your election for the next pay period is locked in. Reverting it now guarantees it’s back to where you normally have it for the next regular pay check.
