The only realistic scenario that could trigger a short notice court appearance like this would be a case "Shareholders against Intel management".

What if he dies who else can answer the question? Someone else should know the company financial results to answer any question to shareholders, not just one guy. No excuse. Bad management again.

Biden bux by March supposedly.
@1ckh: Add to this: a_ struggling_ company's CFO. The house is on fire, and the CFO goes on jury duty? Where is the Board?
Nah, he could have deferred it. The judge would have let him off of he asked for something this important. Alternatively, just tell the defense council that your pro police and they usually give you the boot.
At this point, it doesn't matter if real or not.
The optics are pure sh-t. And people (especially employees) noticed.
federal law prohibits employers from taking adverse actions such as employment termination against an employee who is required to report for jury duty. He's bailing out guys
BS. A large company CFO cannot go on jury duty when it's about to report yearly results and he has to at least be able to do the analyst conference call.
"Next question comes from the line of Vivek with Morgan Stanley:
Vivek: Thanks much Pat, I have a question about the financial impact of Q4 inventory write-downs"
Pat: Sorry, Vivek. Our CFO has been selected for jury duty and urgently called to sit in a very important Wal-Mart shoplifting case. He will get back to you after the jury reaches a verdict."
Gimme a break!!
Believe it's called "on call jury duty". You are on call for a week or two. If they run short, you get the call the night before. Then you go to court next AM and still you may or may not be selected. On the other hand, if you never get a call by the end of your on call period then you are done. Till next time....
This is normal. No sense making a big deal yet. Let's wait to hear what he has to say.
Who gets short notice jury duty notices, on a Friday? I have gotten jury duty notices my whole life usually a month or more in advance.
Can also be the Feds dragging Intel management to court to show where all their cash went. That's actually a more plausible scenario given the timeline.
Or, normal jury duty. If you’ve been there you know.
