When a company makes unethical decisions towards employees, it encourages employees to also act in unethical ways.

Don’t expect your employees to respect leadership and act ethical if leadership doesn’t respect employees and isn’t ethical either.

It’s a two way street, ‘manager’ or not, it doesn’t matter.

Gone are the days of ‘take the higher road’ young people have learned that gets you no where, if you want to excel, be as ruthless and unethical as those at the top.

Pathetic.
Either this is some over-paid exec or someone who doesn’t min/max TC by job hopping and up-leveling.

Skill issue.

  • “It’s unbelievable that a member of management would even think about this option, let alone suggest it to others”

Why?
Most ‘management’ aren’t actually managers.
We’re individual contributors (developers), marketing, finance, etc…
Most of us are just doing our jobs, collecting paychecks, and have no actual loyalty to the company, a company that’s demonstrated it has no loyalty to its employees time and time again.

Why wouldn’t we make strategic choices to maximize income and minimize disruption to our lives at the cost of the company?

What’s the company going to do about it?
Cry?
COBC violations?
Notify the AT&T police?
Referrals come from your direct report and other co-workers of higher standing, they’re just as pi---d and demoralized as everyone else is, they won’t bat an eye at someone saying they’re going to move and not moving.
Nothing will happen.

And how will they even know? You can say ‘yeah I’ll move’ find another job and just give your two weeks saying: ‘a better opportunity came along where I don’t have to move, sorry’.
It isn’t a binding contract, just like they can lay you off even after you move.

What’re they going to do about it?
Plans change. It’s just business.
Put in your 2 weeks 2 weeks before you’re set to move. Bo-m, plans change, sorry.

I don’t get this undying loyalty to a company, I’m very loyal, as long as I’m being compensated to do so. As soon as I feel like you’re trying to get one over on me (telling me to move without compensation) then the gloves come off and I’ll fu-k you over just as hard as you try to fu-k me over.

Dear @vck+1qMQxqYQ Do not worry hub city employee. You are not immune from layoffs. They will get you one way or another. Do you think you are safe…think again. Stop worrying about anyone but yourself. I am sure you contribute next to nothing which is why you have so much time to worry about other people are doing.

Hello silly rabbits, they monitor your LAN connection location as well as your key in and out times. They can even monitor the specific sites or software tou are using. they can't figure out how to run a company but they are masters at tracking where you are. Trust and believe.

Layoffs will be quick now that the cat’s out of the bag. You don’t want to move to Texas or Atlanta anyways they are being overrun., thanks uncle Joe. IMO, you and your family would be better off finding another remote or RTO job in your area, that still resembles a first world country.

Those of you in the hub cities that scoff at non hub city employees, you deserve the higher concentration of karma that you are about to inherit: 122%+ work hours, 122%+ more gaslighting on town halls and from your lead,122%+ less autonomy as you sit in your open cubicle, 122%+ less control of your lives, 122%+ more stagnant career tracks, 122%+ more uncertainty as you grow your dependencies on your att livelihood. When we are gone, you will inherit all the pain we all once kept diluted. ;)

Good luck!

If you’re 💯 certain you will not move, then say no to relocating and collect your severance. If you plan to look for another job and will move only if you don’t find one, say yes. Yes gives you more options.

My org moved in 2018. Two were fired for not moving. It was around the three-month mark. Those were kinder times. I'd just expect it to be quick.

"Live your designation" will go down as one of the stupidest phrases ever....if you don't have a lot of years of service, you could say you will move and then spend a lot of time looking for another job.

Stankey aka the Big Stink has AT&T in 2 commodity businesses - Fiber and Mobility....we many think our Fiber and Mobile Service is better than the competitors, but it's not .... it's like Coke and Pepsi....Hard to see a positive long-term future with AT&T.....they will need to cost cut and automate to stay alive...AT&T was once a revered company by Wall Street, Employees and Customers...no longer....in fact it's despised in many areas...it's a me too company saddled with debt that robs it of any future.

The culture is terrible....most employees are looking over their shoulder, they don't have faith in their leadership at the top and they are scared to speak up....Many VPs and SVPS are like little puppets on a string....they don't want to lose their salary, bonuses, etc. Who is telling John he is making a lot of bad mistakes???? Thaddeus? McElfresh? Zee? Wieboldt? Lori? Doubt it - they are too comfortable, afraid to speak up and are riding it out...Don't know of a single employee that thinks Stankey should be in his job...

Think carefully about moving, especially for a company that has a pretty bleak future...and one that could lay you off after you move....

I hope and pray you land well.

  • “The company just paid me 122% for my bonus. I am proud of working for AT&T in a hub city. What really pis* me off, are these people who after Covid, moved to retirement communities and work from Florida or some other fun location they chose, and now are upset when company asks them to come to work to cities. I say sc you and we be a stronger more committed company without you. Well done Big John, thankyou for your leadership and my bonus and sc*** these people who are not committed to the company.”

If you have that much commitment and loyalty to a company like AT&T then you’re a pathetic mo--n.

AT&T isn’t Apple, Google, Microsoft, or some other dream job where you’re working on world changing technology and concepts…Even then my loyalty only goes just as far as I’m fairly compensated and taken care of.
I lost all my ‘loyalty’ for the company when they decided to roll this out without paying us to move.

You should be looking at for your business, which is your household and net worth. Not the company. YOUR BUSINESS comes first.

Legg had slides that showed how many people accepted "moving" in wave 1 and it was about 50%. But then he had another slide that showed how many haven't moved yet and as I recall it was a pretty large percent of those who said they were going to. I thought the deadline to move was Jan 1, 2024 so if there's still a lot of people that said they were moving that they haven't tracked down yet, they are pretty inept as with all things about getting you off the payroll.

I'd think people with a lower number of years of service would be the ones most likely to say yes to the move and then not move since the severance is based on years of service so for many, extra weeks of work might be worse more than the severance.

There’s lots of people in Network said they will move and don’t plan on it.
The ey way it works is… they get to collect a check remotely until it’s obvious that they’re not moving - then they forfeit their 6 month severance.
Leaders playing along and extending stays for people working outside the 9 saying EVPis ok with it - CEO is not.

Some people have all of 2024 to work under the notion they are moving.

Yes. My coworker said our director is still looking around the office in Dallas everyday for me. Wondering where I am at.

I chose NOT to move in Wave 1, but was curious if I accepted the job and just flew to DFW once a week on Frontier for $50 round trip and badged in, shook hands, logged in and flew home how long would they let me do that. Laid off now and job market weak.

I plan on having someone in Dallas just badge me in. I then will work from home until they figure it out. Then I will deny until I'm fired.
