Lincoln EV program DOA

The beginning of the end for Ford’s failed EV program. Just wait until year end financials are reported. Ford will need “Biden bucks” to survive.

t wasn’t too terribly long ago – 2022, in fact – that Lincoln was slated to gain four new second-generation all-electric models by 2026, including the Lincoln Aviator EV, which is expected to launch in 2025 and be produced at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada. However, back in April 2023, new Lincoln CEO Dianne Craig revealed that the luxury brand was no longer following that timeline. Then, a few days later, Lincoln made some changes to its EV sales program – one that largely mimics Ford’s Model e Certified program, which has faced its fair share of controversy and pushback from dealers. Now, following this morning’s revelation that Lincoln plans to cut 100 dealers from its network in 2024, Craig also revealed that the brand’s EV sales program is now on hold, according to Automotive News.

Even though Ford is moving forward with the implementation of its own Model e Certified program, it seems as if Lincoln’s version is “essentially on hold,” according to this report, a move that’s being made as the brand “rethinks its strategy.” Craig did note that the brand’s decision to trim its dealer network has nothing to do with the number of dealers that did or didn’t opt in for the EV sales program, however.

Previously, FoMoCo announced that the revised Lincoln EV sales program was deferring the timetable dealers were previously expected to follow when installing public fast chargers, along with various other tweaks. Lincoln dealers participating in the program weren’t required to have to install those chargers until March 2025 – instead of November 2024 as previously expected – and weren’t required to install a Level 2 charger in the new vehicle delivery area. Additionally, dealers had until July 2026 to an install a Level 3 public charger, and the program changed to cover three years – 2025-2027 – instead of two.

Dealers that opted not to sign up for the Lincoln EV sales program initially were going to get another chance to do so as well following these changes, though the estimated cost of doing that remained unchanged at around $900,000. Now, it’s unclear if the program will change again before its implementation, or if The Blue Oval will decide to go in a different direction altogether.

Anonymous. Who thinks there are not enough materials for EVs. Probably would have thought that running electricity to every house in America was a pipe dream 100 years ago. And believed the hockey stick graph showing that the world was running out of oil, 50 years ago in the 70s. And let me guess, there would never be a market for more than 5-10 computers world wide. While you keep driving around looking for Blockbuster the rest of will be chilling at home with Netflix. Delivered by materials that weren't available in the quantities needed, back when the idea was new.

The future is coming whether you are comfortable with it or not. The company needs to be prepared for it, or none of us will have jobs.

Lincoln has been DOA since at least 2004.

The BEV solution doesn't work. It takes more energy to dig the low grade ore out of the ground, refine it and make it into your incendiary batteries. Then lets talk about the degraded copper reserves - now less than .5% copper content. Then cast your eyes on the strategic minerals list... see anything there that might make magnets impossible to do in the quantities needed for a BEV solution? Conservation through smaller vehicles and a transition to nitrogen carriers like ammonia look like a splendid path forward. Toyota and Honda agree. Let it go man.

If you have been watching the news you would notice the huge shake up in the oil industry. Our Strategic Petroleum Reserve is running dry at the same time Iran is putting oil shipments at risk in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea passages.

The need FOR BEVs is very real. And Lincoln will be ready to provide them while the competition keeps both feet in the past.

Stop saying when they reach 600k EVs Ford will start turning a profit.

Ignorant statement. Tesla just started making profit after how many years? There cars are old and the tooling and faculties are finally paid off.

One word. Volume. Once we get to the goal of 600K BEV units JF targets later this year (possibly next) our costs will reduce significantly. With sales that at least get somewhat close to Tesla and with lower costs, there you go.

If you're a consumer, why buy a Ford? At almost every price point and for almost every type of vehicle the competition is better. Full-sized trucks is really the only area where Ford is a serious option.

Help me with the math professor, how much net income is generated when we operate at a loss every quarter? Now we are taking additional adjustments that reflect a $1.6B adjustment that will provide an accretive loss of $1.3B on top of operating losses. BEV is the iceberg that sinks the Ford Titanic.

It is very important for a company to have net income. It is not as important to generate net income in a particular way or with a particular product.

So, keep bashing BEV is as incorrect as keep insisting BEV is the only future product.

Look at Tesla. They are the BEV leader by far, yet their stock price has taken a huge hit. BEVs do not meet the needs of consumers. Ford has been failing with Lincoln for many years. The BEV Lincoln will not do any better. If Ford and their employees were smart, they would be lobbying their Michigan congressional members as well as the governor to back off on the BEV mandates, but instead they vote in unison with Californians.

Tooth Fairy, Unicorns, and Santa Claus all are part of anyone who stands with the BEV strategy. The next Global Town Hall will present how badly Ford is hemorrhaging, how much money they have lost, and how many jobs will be cut. Gee, can’t wait.

Rubbish. Ford is still fully committed to the company transformation to BEV mobility. We will not turn back on this most sustainable direction for company. Don't believe me? Do jot miss the next Global Town Hall in February.
