Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Unemployment Question

Filed for unemployment. Now they want to interview me and the sample questions seem odd to me. Why were you let go? Did you know you were going to be let go? Can I work? That last one ki-ls me. (Why yes i can but my company let me go and is now forcing me to look for a job. You think you’re finally free of that sh@tshow and in reality you are not.) So, I’m let go involuntarily by a massive corporate firm who tells me I can also collect unemployment and now it feels like unemployment needs the you to « prove it ». Talk about a slap in the face. Is this common? I mean all they have to do is reach out to the Bank and get their answer. Mine will be unapologetically frank.

They are basic "check the box" questions. Why were you let go- job eliminate vs cause. They are not going to drill down. Basic question to ensure you meet the criterial.

What state are you in? PA was pretty simple.

I also filed for unemployment, had to jump through a few hoops but they didn’t ask me those questions.

One other thing I should have mentioned - you might feel down because you were laid-off . BNY Mellon has been doing this for decades - nothing personal. Just pick your self up and find a new job - honestly we are lucky the Job market is great. compared to 1000's they let go in 2008 or earlier.

Yes, I did this. They might pick you again in a few months for audit (i got picked) - routine stuff. That audit is more intrusive but all the people I talked to were nice and helpful.

Take it easy. This is all normal unemployment hoops. Answer the questions- relax.
