Who in he-l is going to take the offer? I rather just showed up in the plant each day and get $150k per year for doing nothing.

I also bought two rental properties using the $$ I made at the plants. This brings our total to six. It has been an amazing benefit to out retirement fund. My husband and I will be willing the properties to our children so that they can manage the properties as be landlords and not worry about the rat race.
But our country does have a shortage of skilled trades and people willing to work hard in factories. I hope that you all encourage your children to consider these career paths!
$50k haha, right, even before the new negotiated contract I was making that in a few months. I just did my 2023 taxes and grossed $186k. My wife & I just bought a retirement home in Florida, which I am renting out as an Airbnb with my son running it down there. Sell the house in brownstown, then just have the cabin up north and the Florida lake home in 5 years when I retire.

I feel for you folks in engineering, i didn't have to waste my youth getting some master's / bachelor's degree only to compete to the bottom on a world stage for the cheapest cost.
We sacrifice our out time and are able to get OT, where you donate it. And I do not have to deal with some power hungry useless folks pretending they are managing something.
My son plays the game and jumps ship all the time to get his raises, this is the only way with no pension or benefits any more. I am trying to get him a position, maybe you need to use your resources.
And yes, we do stick together and are able to enjoy life without the white collar burnout - they care less if you dropped dead and you need to realize that.

Same goes for design/engineering/testing jobs are all moving outside the USA. Ford is doing it slowly.....
I wonder who will purchase Ford vehicles?
And then they wonder why manufacturing jobs are moving to lower cost countries.
I'm skilled trades collective bargaining unit, I make this in a quarter why would I even consider it.
My electrician coworker just put a $450K+ addition on his Lake Charlevoix 3500 SQFT cabin along with a boat lift, do not think he will settle for a few months of tradeoff.
Better cough up some more money, we still have our picket signs.
