Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Honestly

Does anyone really care anymore? When you go into the office doesn't it look like an episode of The Walking Dead? RTO su-ks - that's a given, but it's much more than that. For the folks that have been here a while, we've endured year-after-year of force reductions and with the suffocating thought, "Is this going to be the year they knock on my door"? The human psyche can only take so much before it just shuts down and people give up - unfortunately, for all those that take pride in their job and strive to make a difference, they've won.

Absolutely care. Happy as a clam. Easy union job with great job security. Company basically has to pay me 2 years salary (approx. $210k) if they want to force me out. And give me retiree Healthcare on top of that.

Yeah, money and stock I immediately sell to buy something else.
That’s what I get.

I rather WFH and do my own personal business too. Kids soccer practice, household chores, Costco runs.

I suppose it’s a dream come true for those who appreciate zombies. If you want bubble s you have to blow into the stick ~ be social and introduce yourself.

The office isn't bad except my office got moved to another state. I do my job and do it well. There's no reason for me to go in the office, all my work is done on a computer , and my team is scattered across the country. If we collaborate it's over teams. I hate the commute, just takes away time from being fresh by sitting in traffic. I could be more productive just being home. If your home you actually work more and are available more. It also makes the rest of life easier. It's the best balance. But that's not my issue.if you want me to come in I'll come in but why make me move to another state.

Having to be in the car for 4 hours a day for my commute, I’m having trouble getting even the bare minimum done. There’s no time and I’m exhausted.

Very few are doing anything other than the mindless busy work that’s required. Big project strategy? Why bother, won’t get funded anyways. Save the company hundreds of millions, got nothing. Saved the company money all the time, just got me nothing in return. So much easier to do what’s asked and nothing more. Hate to be that way, but it’s netted me nothing but extra work. I’ve seen so many top people leave, so many just give up and now mail it in. It’s really sad. There is no motivation in the office and I’m in Atlanta. I can only imagine how other smaller hubs are just mailing it in.

Sorry to burst your bubbles. My job continues to be relatively easy and stress free and has been a big reason for becoming independently wealthy!

If you don’t like RTO, find a new job if you’re capable.

This says a lot about you. You should have already been terminated.

They knocked on my door in 2019, just before Covid hit. Our jobs being sent to India. Thousands of jobs. At first we were told we had to train our replacements or forfeit out severance. In a rare display of intelligence, upper management realized us training them was a big mistake. Then Covid hit. They kept us on payroll through March 2021. I and others went a year and a half working at home and not doing a darned thing. I used that time to set up my own business on AT&T time.

In non hub cities why are they RTO in so many different buildings? Wouldn’t it save money to put everyone under one main roof? The downtown toll building comes to mind. Total ghost town in spite of RTO. Looks like most folks are still at home.

25 years here, 5 years 100% travel, the rest 100% remote until this "RTO". I didn't know what I was missing all these years. I'm getting so much collaboration and culture building done as I sit alone in an empty cube farm on teams calls. Sometimes I hear a door open and close off in the distance. I go days, sometimes weeks, without seeing another human being in the office and when I do, it is usually at month-end and presumably there's meetings or something somewhere else in the building. There are four stopped clocks in the room, all at different times, but my favorite is the one over the door, stopped at 5 o'clock. Homeless people stash their stuff in the bushes along the side of the building and trash blows into the steps down to the front door. The alarm panel beeps forlornly in the lobby. At least I have my coworkers, Roll of Packing Tape, Paper Clip, and Used Kleenex to keep me company until my number comes up in the Surplus Lottery.

That’s the exact thought and this was my year to get that knock on the door. 12/1/23 last day at work. It took me all of December and most of January to mentally recover front the psychological strain and trauma the past 7 years in that environment took. Sadly, the company I loved and was committed to, the company that used to care about their employees. Well that culture is gone and it shows in the faces of those remaining.

Just found out I’m in this forthcoming wave so I’m going to do nothing until off payroll. This company su-ked the desire out of me and looking forward to giving my effort to a company that doesn’t stink like T does. How can you get excellent reviews and still be let go just because you don’t live in one of the chosen cities?

we've lost so many people that when they come to me to do something extra, I simply ask them what they don't want me to do anymore instead. I'm not doing the work of someone else in addition to mine because they cut back the work force.

Same, I do my job and nothing more. Had volunteered for FirstNet and got "removed" from that team because I didn't take "the shot" so no more volunteering for me. I work 8, and hit the gate (whether in the office or at home). I'm not late on my work and have everything buttoned up, but absolutely no effort for "extra" anymore.

Sorry in advance, as I am one of those who endured, and endured, and endured. I can't take it anymore and have all but given up and do the bare minimum now.

My peer needs help, sorry I'm busy.
My manager has a question, simple responses and not an ounce more of effort.
Volunteer to pick up project, no thanks......
