Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

But somehow there is no reason to worry

Job cut announcements in January increased to its highest level in 10 months as employers in the financial and technology sectors launched restructuring efforts, a report released Thursday showed.

Announced layoffs reached 82,307 in January, a 136% surge from December’s 34,817, according to data released by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, which helps companies with the offboarding process for employees. It was the highest monthly total since March 2023.

That's funny. I was in mobility, and in 2019 I and thousands of other mobility folks, many great and dedicated employees, were cut across the country for that 'not near a collaboration zone' reason, and there have been many subsequent cuts since then. With that move to all E// 5G, there will be even more. I think the safest positions are on the Board of Directors...LOL.

“ I am in mobility so I don't have to worry. Legacy technology should be worried.”

Mobility need virtually no badged employees. Literally everything is automated. Engineering and back office are being outsourced and shifted to contractors. Sales is being forced online and to authorized retailers…..it’s probably the least safe place to be. Mobility will survive, just without badged employees. Check back in 12 months…..

For those saying this is fear mongering the article the op talks about is real. I saw it too. Yes the tech industry is a big part of it, but also UPS is having large layoffs. That’s probably due in large part to the salary increase their union negotiated, but they also point out that the number of packages sent is dropping. Don’t hide you head in the sand. We are not out of the woods yet and the supposed soft landing is not complete yet.

Yes, it’s called the white collar recession. Been happening for a long time now. Ever wonder why you used to get called all the time by recruiters and now hardly a peep except for those India based recruiters (that aren’t going to hire you, they just need to say no one wanted the job so they can H1B it).

“ Quit fear mongering.”

Another Captain of the Titanic asking the passengers to ignore the water.

Pure , unadulterated ignorance, plain and simple.

Quit fear mongering. There are always large layoffs in January and February due to seasonal hires at many companies through the Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New’s Years holidays. A better assessment is to look at what industries are having the most layoffs, right now the tech industry is adjusting.

I don't know if true or false. If post is a lie, what are you trying to do? Only a ____ would try to crush others morale.
