Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Only 4700 EV’s in January

It would have been cheaper to give every prospect $20k than lose money on EV builds that just sit on a lot. We use to discontinue platforms at 60k or less and now we need Mach-E and Lightning together to get to a dismal number.

Our MBA management team seems to be making a big mistake. We learn on Feb 6 just how costly too.

Reuters) -Ford Motor (F.NaE) reported an about 11% fall in January sales of electric vehicles (EV) on Friday, as the industry grapples with shrinking demand for the cars that are typically costlier than their gasoline-powered counterparts.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker sold 4,674 EVs in January, compared with 5,247 units sold during the same period last year.

The EV demand slowdown due to elevated interest rates, which means higher loan payments for buyers, has prompted some automakers to cut production.

Last month, Ford said it would reduce production of its marquee F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck at its Michigan Rouge EV plant, and increase production of gas-powered Bronco SUVs and Ranger pickups.

High prices of EVs and concerns about the limited range of these cars, especially in rural areas due to lack of charging infrastructure, have fueled sales of hybrid vehicles.

Last year, Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley said the company had plans to quadruple sales of gas-electric hybrids over the next five years.

Ford's total sales for January were up 4.3% at 152,617 vehicles, helped by a 42.7% jump in hybrid vehicle sales.

I am seeing more and more F-150 lightnings around. There are 3 in the parking lot at my office of 300 people.

I know this will be popular. If the government forgives your student loan, you shouldn't be allowed to own a gas car. We would be at 600k units per year in a heartbeat!

If Ford can't sell more than 100k EV a year, they Ford should shutdown the EV business. It's a money losing business.

It would have been cheaper for Ford in the long run if Ford never made the bone-headed decision to build EV's. Ford should have instead partnered with Tesla by having Ford build and install Charging stations throughout country and Tesla continued to produce their EV's to sell.

Tesla only sold 70k units for January in the US.

It's not that bad. 1 to 15 ratio between Ford and Tesla. It could be worse.

I am not sure what dr-gs the super happy guy on here is taking, but they obviously don't work in Model E.

As someone currently struggling in that org, the status of the next gen Model E products is analogous to a festering garbage dumpster, in flames, on the deck of the titanic, trying to navigate the present day Red Sea.

If happy bunny slipper thinks 600k units a year is going to happen, then he is as delusional as he is incompetent.

There's an easy legislative fix for this. Simply reduce the flow rate at gasoline pumps to half a gallon per minute. When people are used to a regular taking 20-30 minutes, they'll be ready for plug in hybrid. When they've tasted the power of electric mode, they will upgrade to EV for their next car.

Vote this comment up if you've never owned a plug in hybrid, and down if you bought a EV after owning a plug in hybrid.

Either Ford marketing and planning is brainless or Farley said full steam ahead anyway on EVs. Ruh Roh look for Bill to scold Americans for not wanting to buy his overpriced EVs.

This has to be astroturfing. There’s no way that someone would believe the things you wrote. I work on a Gen 2 product and it’s an absolute mess.

RE: The real goals are to outsource all these jobs being honest !

We keep hanging, but the only progress being made by the company is moving all these jobs overseas.

To note, the real goals are set for our Model e gen-2 products and services. JF has mentioned 600K per year and that is certainly do-able with the mobility products we have coming. I would say do not get yourself down on sales of current BEV offerings, the demand is going to change significantly in the near future. Hang in there.

We have to be honest with ourselves here. If the federal government is mandating these, they need to be purchasing them from us.
