Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

You have to admit,

senior management is really good at one thing, and there's no disputing it - totally destroying morale and creating an atmosphere of just complete dread. They took a once proud company and turned into a place that no one, literally no one, is happy to work at.

No matter how much backing slapping and congratulating they do to each other on how they saved the company by making the "hard" decisions, they can't escape the fact that their decisions are what put this company in peril in the first place.

Admittedly, senior management reads these threads and don't think for a second that some of the gaslighting comments you see are not coming directly from them.

You wouldn't believe some of the things I could tell you about 1 manager who was no benefit to society . However , JLB retired and everyone is glad he is gone .

The bad news for them is, by ki-ling the medical benefit, those that are rule of 75 and under 65 are going to wait until 65 to retire.

But they are stupid and don't get that this was the result. But the Stink also falls in the same demographic and he's just hanging on making stupid decisions for his big paycheck because I'm sure he doesn't have to worry about something as "insignificant" as the cost of a healthcare as the rest of us.

All by design. In an effort to reduce headcount and get folks to leave. The bad news for them is, by ki-ling the medical benefit, those that are rule of 75 and under 65 are going to wait until 65 to retire. <<<

This right here. My plan was always to max retirement savings and retire early, but i missed the Rule75 eligibility cutoff in Dec'21 when they eliminated the retiree medical benefit. So now I have to work another 10 years to afford the full cost health premiums.

I retired at 55 using the 75 rule and left with a pension and was offered the worst medical insurance and that would have cost my wife and I $940 a month. So I decided to sell almost everything and put some of my belongings in a small storage unit. I left the USA 6 years ago living and traveling to many different countries. Dental and Medical is very affordable outside the USA and surprisingly the medical devices that are used are better than most of the USA. Also can make appointments with specialists without a referral. The doctors visit at times are cheaper than my Kaiser copay and medications are cheaper. Seriou quality care overseas is also so much better and a lot cheaper at 1/4 of the price with no extra surprise bill in the mail.

Why do you stay?
To watch you fight and struggle. It is such sweet music.

“If they want that demo to leave, which they have stated repeatedly, then they need to do a 1 time medical coverage offer, then those folks will take it plus severance and walk out the door.”
This was a known benefit removal at the end of 2021. Everyone in the older demo clearly knew the implications of staying on past the end of the year. Retirement medical is too expensive to retain. The Rule of 65 should is no longer a rule for many.

“Awwww. Sorry you have to work from the office instead of home. That's literally the only thing you are upset about.“

Yes. That is the main reason we are upset. Are we not clear enough for you?

"Awwww. Sorry you have to work from the office instead of home. That's literally the only thing you are upset about."

OP didn't mention that at all.

There's a myriad of issues: our unprecedented debt load from poor executive decisions, our CEO who tries to belittle anyone that doesn't see his vision (even our shareholders), inconsistent pay gaps between employees, continual job cuts at the front-line but not rightsizing senior leadership teams to match, the c-suite making multi-million dollar salaries with $50K monthly stock options provided to them.. I mean, the list could go on and on.

John was on CNBC today from pebble beach. He talked about golf a lot and answered some softball questions from the tv hosts who were probably invited so couldn’t ask the hard questions. He basically said fiber optic and internet connectivity is our future, we will be growing organically but competition is going to grow through M&A and at some point he slipped and admitted T is buying back its stock so that’s why stock price goes up and then down. Go watch it for yourself. The headline on tv screen was “pebble beach is not fun anymore”. That was funny.

Otherwise all the demoralization will push the younger/non-pension folks they want to keep out the door. Those folks can take their 401k and go anywhere. Already seeing a ton of it with the RTO/Relo mess.
