Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The RTO is a genius productivity move. Here's why.

Take the feelings out of it and think.

You can opt for remote and not ever be told you have to go to the office ever again. . . and just get on with your job. No more anxiety. Getting on with work. But you have to prove your value.

OR

Position to be promoted so you can work in the office. If you work better when you lose 4 hours a day on distraction and commute, office conflict and noise. You prove your value.

Its a no brainer. There will be a run for remote. But after this it will get the best of everyone.

Remote workers that work well have advantages in time and productivity, You can do ten things at once and focus. The ones who dont work well will be obvious and shouldnt be remote, the ones who do work well will shine. You wont have excuses to be hard to reach reach or shy. You have to be productive or your next step is back to that office to be even less productive.

People who go into the office already are harder to reach and less productive by nature They face an uphill battle but if they do it well they are leaders and will shine. But if they want that promotion its not just about showing up. If they are just coming in to avoid family, time waste or get a promotion it will be visible.

Very smart move. Best of both worlds out of your employees and no excuses from either.

And if you were hired in a state with no office as fully remote and doing better job or equal to yout peers how is this fair?

Remote people are going to have to be exceptional at very visible and proactive work, or they will look like they are missing and it will stand out fast. A lot of people are good at this. But they will have a disadvantage of visibility.

Office people are going to have to make up for the lost time and productivity drains they will have every day. They will have an advantage in access to resources, but at a cost in time and microtasking. Guarantee they will be taking work home to get some work done.

Both are going to coexist and do really exceptional things.

If anyone thinks that informally staff who are good at their job and loyal to Dell are going to be passed over for someone who turns up to the office but cant do their job, they arent getting it.

This is a very smart move. Click that remote button and prove you can do it.

Why the he-l would I choose to be remote to be more productive when the increased productivity comes with no reward??? I easily get 4x the work done per day working from home than from the noisy office, but since it’s clear they want to punish that I’m going to just sit at home and stop putting in any effort. WFR is the greatest reward they can offer lately.

INCORRECT. I have seen internal emails that went out to upper management that say that ANYONE who chooses the full-time remote option will be added to the future (most likely the next round) of WFR. They have NO INTENTION of offering full time remote for anyone that is not field. The first round is to try and drive attrition and get away with not having to pay out packages. Soon, they will completely remove full-time remote for anyone who is not an SC, AE, etc.
