Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The KL Replacement Effort

Honestly it's just sad going to my site. We all know over the years they've been offshoring jobs. We all know they've been sending a KL or BTC resource to the sites occasionally, but it is truly hitting full throttle now.

One of our units is on T/A and where you'd usually see local talent gearing up to inspect towers and what not, it's almost all KL. Somebody quit or move on to another role? Guess who's filling that spot? KL expat. Our team has multiple KL resources that are given the most basic and mundane tasks that provide little to no value, still get it wrong, and they still want us to train another one.

Don't get me wrong, I love my job. I have no plans to leave. It is disheartening to know that the next generation of local talent we have is magnitudes smaller and the commrodery will never be the same.

We're all having to wear this mask in front of management like we're okay with this and it's going great. They know it's not, we know it's not, but they have to tow the line too. It's just f'd from the top down. When I joined the company it was a big draw to me that it was THE place to be, but it has only gone downhill. It's the just same as any other place, if not worse. They literally don't even want us here.

I was put on PIP and guess what, my KL counterparts knew it before I did. I trained them years before and my manager who's also in KL PIPd me. And so I took the PIL, the writing has been on the wall, I should have looked elsewhere before this happened. The expats are so expensive, they enjoy their lives while here in the US with extra income in their home lands. I still don't get the economics of expats. Oh well, at the end of the day, there are only winners and losers and I lost. But wait, I think I am in a better company now, lesser stress.

As a mid career person. This is just a job. Pays the bills and reciprocal at-will status. I work to live not live to work. I doubt I could love a corporate job

Yes this place has become very difficult. Their managers don’t have nothing on the PIP mixers though.

Commrodery, yikes. Anyway as stated by others, gtfo while you still can. The minutes spent posting this are ones you should have devoted to updating your resume.

Yep, the supervisors in KL are super abbrassive as well. Their performance are gauged by how much work they can pry off your handds. You will be initially given a pat in the back for giving them (your) work, until you have nothing else to give....then off you go.

KLTC / BTC basically is a job harvesting branch, f------ l33ches of America.

And the beatings will continue. Goal is half or more of us will be pushed out, through of course our infamous performance plan. Each year 8% (5 forced, 3 natural), will be half in 7 years. You heard it on the call. Funny thing is still new folks will apply because for them it’s a good paying job. It’s the current folks with 10+ years of experience who joined thinking this as a long term company who now have to think what else they can do outside.
Best, find a better place and move. Some smaller company where you are valued more and still has those old family run business kind of value system. I am leaving as soon as I find something good. I am good with 20% pay cut as well, but can have better mental mind and work colleagues I can relate with. The KLTC, BTC folks are good people but not generally folks I can hangout for church or BBQ. Don’t have much in common, we are just from different background. My assessments were best for 10 years and since last 6 I have dropped two categories, because bottom has been leaving. I know what’s coming ahead for me, 5 years I will be the bottom. My work didn’t change, I am doing more and better, but we just have less people now.

What’s disheartening is knowing that there are young people locally looking for professional jobs. There are no such jobs because they are all filled by KL and BTC on assignment. All that is available are the trades with companies on contract basis. Despite the ExxonMobil advertisements about supporting local community, there is no long term career here.
