Layoffs cannot be connected to performance. Whoever says that is lying through his/her teeth. If that would be the case then how'd these hordes of irrelevant directors and managers hang around the company while loyal, dedicated, performing folks get either LRed or pushed out?! You come to UKI org, all these directors and their platoon of managers do is click on excel sheet, politicise everything and listen to team gossips fed by designated snitch SEs appointed with promises of promotions or move into management train. These parasites add no value to the company or revenue at all! But do they ever get LRed? Never!

NPR had a segment this week on employment, and discussed the fact that fully remote employees are more likely targets of LRs than in-office. So I imagine bean-counters just look at a spreadsheet and cut a random number of remote workers to fill a quota.

I’d heard something similar from the last lot of LRs. Someone from the team was LR’ed, who was working on key projects for a key customer. Customer complained, everyone was confused, manager said he didn’t put him on the list.
Can someone enlighten us how some people are getting LR’ed with no input from the manager? Who decides if the manager isn’t, what criteria is being applied to put the person on the list?

Leader here - always thought the day my team were impacted i'd be asked to make some names. It's a very sh---y thing to do, but at least as a direct manager i would be aware of performance, personal situations, etc.. but no. I have been notified about specific people to be laid off, with no context whatsoever. The more I think about it, the more it makes no sense. One of these folks is literally THE top performer in the team. Grade, salary and location are standard for the team and this person has just been promoted in the last cycle. MAKES NO FU--ING SENSE and makes my stomach turn around.

@4yuq+1qToKPl9, AKA "Just someone who can't wait to leave the company", so just quit and leave already. No one is forcing you to stay. If you don't want to be there, then no one wants you there.

Is a few measly months severance package worth the risk that, when the time comes that Cisco LR's you, you may not be able to find a new job before your severance package runs out? Remember, that you you finally get the push out the door, you won't be the only one and suddenly you'll be competing for a limited number of jobs with a larger candidate pool than if you look now and simply quit when you get a new job offer. It's much easier to find a job, and certainly a better job, while you're currently employed than it is when you're facing a ticking clock watching your severance package dwindle.

I know it doesn’t always work like this, but if it’s 10% that are going, and you’re in a team of ten then the bottom performer will be the only person asked to leave…even if you’re performing at mid-level you should be more than safe.

No. Cisco is done with layoffs. It has realized the destructive nature of LRs and will no longer resort to having them. There, do you feel better now?

You sound like have nothing else better to do and is a parasite. Why keep gaming on Cisco?

Too many companies out there even paying much better than Cisco. If you don’t have any skills you need to be a parasite gaming on Cisco to survive. Very sad. Leave yourself and Cisco some legacy and move on.

I read Cisco is going to have layoffs. Is Cisco going to have layoffs?

I read Cisco has no AI. Other companies have AI. Is Cisco going to have AI?

I read an ER is just paying your best people to go to your competitors. Is Cisco going to have another ER?

I read other companies are competing with Cisco. Are other companies competing with Cisco?

All these and more have been asked and answered dozens of times on this site over many years. I'm not asking people to do PhD thesis level research but take a bit of time to see if the answers are already out there.
