Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Forget about layoffs, Most valuable item in tech is Talent, no talents left at Cisco.

Everything falls apart as expected. Whoever left are looking to gaming on Cisco and contributing nothing.

To be honest it’s very hard to remove people who are not doing job accurately and are in sales engineering role but they are not engineers.
They are like project manager or manage extended team.
Worst part is seeing how the team supports them. So it’s very hard for manager to improve.

Customer just need box to move packet from one port to another. And there are plenty of companies doing that and cheaper.

At least at the access layer there are far cheaper products, but if you need high touch services you're going to the big players that still command a fortune.

Not any company has true value want to sell to Cisco.

You work at a startup for a payout, not a paycheck, and once you get that payout you go somewhere else where you can do new cutting edge work for another payout rather than rot in maintenance mode for a paycheck at the acquiring company. If you can get a massive payout with no risk its a no-brainer. For every one person who wants their own private 747 there are a thousand fiscally responsible people that just want financial independence so they can pursue their interests on their own terms.

Even in the overall employment market in the US people only stay at a job for about 4 years so it's not like working at a company is some kind of identity or calling.

Not any company has true value want to sell to Cisco.
Valuable companies will either carry themselves out to IPO or sell themselves out to much better companies than Cisco. Sure 20-25 years ago companies would consider selling to Cisco, not current market when Cisco products are in commodity.

Companies like Cisco are no longer interested in R&D, instead the model is acquisitions.

Cisco is not able to sell to Enterprise market, they have to find someone to blame.

Turth is customers are running away to products from other companies or the competitors could offer value and services

Cliff Thomas, if his selling is based from new york region, he is done. Cisco sales in New York region is done deal, no one is buying Cisco in New York region these days.

Even Arista is raising their price after gaining market share. Firewall goes to Palo Alto in New York area. Everybody is using AWS, Azure as primary and GCP as secondary

Cisco is done in New York Metro.

That’s how it’s. If you’re a white male you need to get the puck out. Cisco is running by self promoting boo-z-o-o-s from third world over promising it.

That is very well said about no talent. We had talent but they keep getting rid of anyone good. I guess I'm mediocre since I'm not gone yet... Look at the announcement last week on Cliff Thomas; he's out. He was terrific, a natural leader, well-respected, well-liked, and charismatic. They pushed him out as the sacrificial lamb to the poor Sales leadership above him. Why didn't they get rid of the person above him....oh, wait, they aren't a white male 50 plus.

So, a fantastic results-oriented leader like Cliff is out, yet Maria Martinez and Alistair Wildman are still there (I forgot Maria is Alistair's mentor; go figure no one likes either). Two very unliked, not respected, and poor leaders are still there. Again, employees and customers will be negatively impacted by getting rid of people like Cliff.

Large number of employees left are taking advantage of clueless management and are either part timers or working two jobs

Cisco doesn't need talent. Networking is 30 years old industry, no major innovation recently. Customer just need box to move packet from one port to another. And there are plenty of companies doing that and cheaper.

Great talent is useless with bad management and great management is useless with bad talent. Cisco's management for decades has been beating talent out of people who came in the door with great capabilities.
