CL 28 next role

I am a CL 28 and am looking for advice on types of roles I should be seeking to continue my career progression. Any advice? I’d like to map out how to reach low 30’s CL before retirement.

If you are CL-28 your next role is "RETIREMENT" at age 55.

OP here. Potential above 30 communicated but I don’t have someone checking in and mentoring me like some of the women and minorities I know.

Pretty sh---y to spend decades here to find out that behind closed doors a bunch of people who don’t know you or your work declared your ultimate potential. You have no control over your career. You have no autonomy. Jobs are filled behind closed doors.

@wbq+1qVvAEFH Exactly When does the PIP start here for over staffed management, nothing going on here but wasting energy, hydrogen, and nitrogen. Technical talent is gone, Brothers are still in place , can’t make this stuff up, pull the pin Darren, time for another lab sweep to move along idle contractors in the dark 😂💤 send Nan O 102, 475 rats back to the hall

You have sh---y/cowardice leadership if your potential has never been communicated to you. Typically you're told what kind of position you may hold at the end you career. Most people are defaulted to "principal/senior principal", high POTs are "vice president", highest POT is "corporate VP"/"CEO". All of these roles except maybe CEO span multiple CLs. So you only ever have a vague guess as to the true number. Regardless, this number decides how fast you progress in your career, your salary growth, and opportunities you get. Nothing else matters more in the company than your potential. As such, spineless leaders don't tell direct reports their potential because the vast majority will realize that there's no carrot, only a whip. Once this realization settles in, people essentially quiet quit until they can retire or are forced out through PIP. Such a result doesn't sit well when your entire existence depends on claiming the work of others.

Really, is this some sort of rat race? You win when someone who stamp 28 or above on your forehead?

You better re-evaluate your priorities in life.

What do CL 27-30 make? What is a Clinton/Annandale do nothing supervisor, manager CL? There is so much dead weight here. Most run around and try to justify their existence. If they would get rid of nad O and his pack of merry losers. Combine managers and supervisors it might help with the bottom line.

Never has my CL “potential” communicated to me in the 2+ decades I’ve been at EM. Thought that was something that isn’t shared or talked about?

“We aren’t going to tell you what your potential is - we just want you to run on that hamster wheel as fast as you can, and keep thinking maybe you’ll get ahead. But you won’t. We have you pegged and you’ll never overcome some arbitrary “potential” that was established moons ago, probably when you were on your second maternity leave.”

Run little hamster, run. Muhahaha.

This is such a jacked system.

Your map probably leads out of Exxon to Chevron.

OP, you are too expensive. You'll be NSIed soon unless you're one of the chosen ones or you're from India. If not, you should be looking for a job right now.

What potential has been communicated to you? If you don't have above CL30 POT you'll never be above CL30.
