Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Deferred Severance hitting today

For those surplused last year and deferred payment to this year. As others have said, net payment about half of gross. Need to wait another year to get your tax refund for the remainder of your money

Taxed at maximum last year. Getting it back now, as I do my 2023 taxes. BS.

The company’s new software system sc--wed up the withdrawal rate for deferred severance but the company will never admit it. They are clowns and don’t give a rats a-s!

Treatment doesn’t jive with H&R Block Jackson Hewitt FAQ on severance payments made as a lump sum. I called AT&T Payroll and they said Fed was taken at 32% from my check, but the tax prep services say the rate should be 24% at worst (most people get 22% supplemental. Call AT&T payroll and they can email you your pay stub. Good luck!

"After I wash this severance out of my direct deposit account, time to run over to T-Mobile to switch over my 4 family lines and all accessories!!!"

That will really show them. You may leverage your way back into a job at T, possibly a promotion.

Face it. Only the id--ts remain. Or those too close to the end. Either way. No one cares.

Can anyone please comment if they were laid off last year and took severance immediately, was it taxed at the MAX TAX RATE???

I think T actually sc--wed up taxing everyone's severance at the max rate, wasn't what they told us.

I was certain we were informed it was NOT taxed like a bonuse and would be taxed at our normal pay income rate. Liars as usual i guess....

Received mine today and was shocked as it was clipped approximately 45 percent of gross. Not the 30% The Skankey Stankey promised.
