Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A note to Jeremy

As a leader, when you're asked to do things that are immoral, illegal, or conflict with your values, it's your duty to do the right thing, put your foot down and say NO. Even if you have to quit your job to prove the point, at least you will walk away with your dignity and not a reputation for being out of touch with reality and a terrible person. It's painfully obvious what this strategy is all about and if you truly can't see it, I really feel sorry for you. Your dignity is on the line here and everyone sees it. This strategy is going to cause AT&T fail and when it does, you will be out on the street, except you're not getting the payday Stankey is getting. We will all find new REMOTE jobs with better companies and AT&T will just be a bad memory for us. For you, finding another job after this role will be very difficult, since googling Jeremy Legg is going to direct everyone to these posts; this is your new resume and it's ugly buddy.

"All this management crying over having to return to working from the office. This much kicking and screaming just validates what the company is doing. People had it waaaaaay too good working from home."

The complaining about RTO is not about RTO itself. Its the premise of RTO... "in person collaboration". That's why they say we have to RTO. Except its a sham. Add to it the "contractor reduction". That's a sham too.

AT&T loves to repeat the mistakes of history.

  1. The right skills will all be in the right office at the right time. Result? remote teams. No in person collaboration, no reason for RTO
  2. They are cutting teams to the minimum size, and below. Where do the resources come from for the new projects? Result? Hire more contractors. Oops, what happened to reducing contractors?
  3. From the latest Legg town hall, they want to move employees to legacy systems, and reduce spend on legacy systems. Why? They are going to sell the systems, and the employees, to TechM, IBM, and Accenture. AGAIN. Result? Employees are sc--wed and increased number of contractors.
  4. How do we have in person collaboration with employees in Israel and India?

Its all a sham. Its all a lie. Jeremy just wants Stankey's job.

We aren't complaining because of RTO. We're complaining because the whole "labor strategy" in ATS is based on lies.

If Legg were actually serious about collaboration, the entirety of ATS would be moving to a single building or complex in either Dallas or Atlanta. Period.

Do you feel that the majority of posts on here represent dignity?

Legg has all the values and integrity of a piece of soggy lettuce.

It is truly mystifying why they would spend big bucks to bring in an unqualified empty suit like him. It must be that they figure he can talk the talk and he's no threat to the rest of them.

OP, why are you working for a company that does not share your principles? Very shameful. Agree?

So, you really think exec recruiters scan the posts on layoff.com to hire their next execs?

And I don’t really disagree with your point. Money makes one rationalize their principles.

All this management crying over having to return to working from the office. This much kicking and screaming just validates what the company is doing. People had it waaaaaay too good working from home.

I don’t think is it. My read on it is it goes back to the way it was announced. From that initial email from the Stank, he lost everyone. And now we have more or less the same story from all the leaders about culture, being present, collaboration, office parties, etc which can be acceptable until you realize this is a global company and it is impossible to get all team members in the same space, not to mention the other teams you most regularly interact with. When you have people on your own team in different countries with about 2 hours overlap each day you are not achieving what these leaders tout as the reason / benefits of RTO. Nobody ever brings it up —— why are contractors not in the office? Most teams have at least one, none are required to be in the office (unless you ask Paradise who said they should be, but I have yet to see one in his tower in the office)

Most do not have current market skills and will retire early if declining to move.

God forbid high-performing employees who create over $1M a year in value have it good.
They must be miserable declares Stankey and Co.

I mean, Stankey gets paid $20M a year to do exactly that, so…..

I'm pretty sure he's become aware of this place as he seems very adamant on disproving virtually everything in here. You think this dude just stands around the watercooler listening to people complaining about stock performance?

Preach.

To be fair though, people at his level always fail upwards. They aren’t measured off performance, they’re measured off who they know and the experience they have even if that experience was failure.

He also probably doesn’t need another job, he could quit with the money he has and never work another day in his life.

It isn’t the same, but you’re right. I suspect once the economy improves, which we’re already seeing, and the job market for knowledge workers picks back up, the remote dynamic will kick back in as other companies are forced to surrender to attract and retain talent and this strategy will be seen as a mistake.

No matter how hard they try, they aren’t going to be able to save commercial real-estate of revitalize dying cities no one wants to visit or live in.
